Differences and Similarities between English and Chinese Word Meanings ——From the Aspect of Different Types of Word Meaning

英汉词义的对应关系不仅仅表现在颜色和动植物词等部分词汇上,而且系统的体现在各种词义类别中.英汉词汇外延意义同多异少,联想意义同少异多,虚词的语法意义同多异少,实词的语法意义同少异多.系统分析英汉词义的异同有助于词义比较研究向纵深发展,对于翻译、英语教学和跨文化等方面的研究也颇有益处.

Differences and similarities between English and Chinese word meanings are studied systematically in this paper by analyzing different types of word meaning. It is pointed out that denotative meanings d English and Chinese words have more similarities; their associative meanings have more differences; grammatical meanings of their functional words have more similarities; and grammatical meanings of their lexical words have more differences.
