文章阐述了英汉两种语言中词缀的性质、来源、特点等,进而比较了两种语言前后缀构词的异同,着力阐释了两者之间在数量、地位、功能、表现形式、发展趋势等方面的诸多差异,以及产生差异的原因,认为英汉语言中缀合构词“异”远大于“同”。这种差异反映出英汉语言词汇系统的本质特征。

This paper sets out to make a comparative study of affixes and their formation of words in English and Chinese. The article begins with the exposition of the nature, source, and characteristics of affixes in the two languages, and then discusses the actual formation of words, focusing on the discrepancy in such respects as number, position, function, representation and the trend of development and causes of the differences as well.
