In this study, a novel sono-Fenton system based on Fe@Fe2O 3 core-shell nanowires was used to degrade a recalcitrant pollutant, pentachlorophenol (PCP). We studied the influence of the pH value and the atmosphere on the degradation efficiency and the production of oxidative free radicals (such as ·OH radicals). The intermediates and the final products were determined for the analysis of the possible pathway of the decomposition. We found that this sono-Fenton system was effective for oxidizing PCP. The results help to the understanding the synergistic mechanism of the Fe@Fe 2O3 core-she...
