摘要:
Factorization-based analysis of multi-dimensional EEG (Electroencephalography) has become increasingly important in neuroscience research and practices with the capability of extracting latent multi-way features. However, how to sift the most informative factors of routinely noisy EEG remains unclear especially under the circumstance of no a priori knowledge. This study proposes a Bayesian tensor factorization (BTF) model as a "one-stop" solution to the challenges. BTF assumes non-informative priori on potential distribution of factors and noise derived from exponential family distribution. A high-dimensional variational Bayesian inference method is designed to iteratively estimate the posterior distribution of potential factors. The factor vectors whose elements are "small" values can then be identified as redundancy and filtered out afterwards. Finally, the study enables a generic factorization-based method for multi-way analysis of brain states. Results from experiments on synthesized tensors indicate that (1) BTF excels in processing EEG tensor mixed with intensive white noises in comparison with the traditional counterparts; and (2) the non-informative components in factors can be filtered out effectively (rank reduction). Two case studies of factorization-based multi-way analysis assisted by a Multi-Layer Perception (MLP) network have been performed on two real EEG datasets, and (1) seizure detection and (2) sleep stage classification can be achieved with averaged accuracy up to 99.52% and 90.81% respectively. Resonance is generally used as a metaphor to describe the manner how the information from different sources is combined. Although it is an attractive and fundamental phenomenon in human behavior studies, most studies observed semantic resonances in well-controlled experimental settings at word level. To make up the missing link between word and document level resonances, we devoted our contributions to topic resonances in a novel and natural setting: academic commentaries. Ninety-three academic commentaries from ninety-three authors, along with their references and original papers, are analyzed by a latent Dirichlet allocation based natural language processing approach. This approach can decompose a corpus written and read by an author into several topics with different weights, which can reveal the phenomena ignored at word or document level. We found that (1) topic resonances commonly exist between commenters' fundamental input and output topics; (2) output words are re-allocated by commenters to echo salient input topics; (3) commenters are more prone to associate references which focus on the non-dominant input topics; and (4) topic resonance can even be predicted by a Hebbian-like model which matches the aforementioned findings. These findings will continue to enrich our understanding on the relationship among probe, feedback and context.

Hypergeometric distribution is one of the most important mathematical models in probabilistic subjects, and also an integral part of the intelligent tutoring system based on automatic machine solving. In this paper, we propose a set of solutions to automatically solve the Hypergeometric distribution problems. Our method combines the syntactic and semantic information of the subject, establishes the matching rule between the topic narration and the type template, and implement the problem solving by establishing the solution formula corresponding to the topic, as well as extracting and complementing the corresponding problem data. Experiments conducted on a dataset which collected from the Internet and College Entrance Examination questions over the years demonstrate the feasibility of our method.

In recent years, a growing number of educational researchers are keen to utilize social network analysis (SNA) and emotion detection for exploring collective learning states. Students' emotions and interaction characteristics before the exam typically suggest some significant traces of learning states. In this study, data from the discussion forum of "Chinese legal history" course in a university learning platform was used to investigate evolutionary trends of students' network characteristics and emotion densities (EDs) in the last four weeks before the final exam, as well as visualized the distribution of the high-EDs (including positivity, negativity and confusion) students in the weekly network. Empirical analyses suggested that, as the exam approaches, learners' network structure and emotional densities are constantly changing. After experiencing a smooth change in the first two weeks, the average degree centrality reached a peak in the third week, and confusion emotional density far exceeded positive and negative emotional density in the last week, which may help in identifying the potential academic losers and providing timely interventions.

This paper proposes a Bayesian knowledge tracing model with three learning states by extending the original two learning states. We divide a learning process into three sections by using an evaluation function for three-way decisions. Advantages of such a trisection over traditional bisection are demonstrated by comparative experiments. We develop a three learning states model based on the trisection of the learning process. We apply the model to a series of comparative experiments with the original model. Qualitative and quantitative analyses of the experimental results indicate the superior performance of the proposed model over the original model in terms of prediction accuracies and related statistical measures. 摘要:
This study describes an overview of the effects of flipped classroom instruction on students' learning outcomes and provides direction for future research on this topic. The Web of Science was used to search for research and 22 relevant articles were identified [1-22]. The content analysis method was employed to examine the selected articles. The results showed that flipped classroom instruction can positively influence students' cognitive, affective, and self-regulated learning. Flipping the classroom can not only practice students' problem-solving and independent study abilities, but also provide students with a positive attitude toward learning.

Asian education is known for its examination-driven orientation, with the downsides of distorting the processes of learning and teaching, diminishing students’ interest in learning, and failing to nurture twenty-first century competencies among students. As a group of Asian researchers, we have been developing Interest-Driven Creator (IDC) Theory, a design theory based on three anchored concepts, namely interest, creation, and habit. Each of these anchored concepts is represented by a loop composed of three components. In the interest loop, the three components are triggering, immersing, and extending. The components of the creation loop are imitating, combining, and staging. The habit loop consists of cuing environment, routine, and harmony. These three loops are interconnected in various ways, with their characteristics revealed by the design process. We hypothesize that technology-supported learning activities that are designed with reference to IDC Theory will enable students to develop interest in learning, be immersed in the creation process, and, by repeating this process in their daily routines, strengthen habits of creation. Furthermore, students will excel in learning performance, develop twenty-first century competencies, and become lifelong interest-driven creators. To sharpen our understanding and further the development of the theory, we need more discussion and collaborative efforts in the community. Hypotheses arising from this theory can be tested, revised, or refined by setting up and investigating IDC Theory-based experimental sites. By disseminating the framework, foundations, and practices to the various countries and regions of Asia, we hope that it will bring about compelling examples and hence a form of quality education for the twenty-first century, which is an alternative to the examination-driven education system. In this paper, we present an overall introduction to IDC Theory and its history, and discuss some of the steps for advancing it in the future.

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) trade deep and intimate tutor-tutee interactions for large-scale coverage of educational lectures. Therefore, a proper length of student-assistant discussion is particularly precious both for the questioner and the observers in MOOC communities. To investigate the concept conveying characteristics of long and short discussions, this paper collected 32 student-assistant discussion transcripts in MOOC communities. Each discussion thread was randomly chosen in one course. Besides, 32 questions-and-answers (Q&A) transcripts in different science lectures and 31 Q&A transcripts in different press briefings were collected as comparison groups. The nouns in these transcripts were extracted as concepts, and the concept conveying procedure was modelled into a directed graph. We found that if an assistant would like to prolong the discussion in MOOC communities, he or she needs to retain concepts closely connected like political spokesmen on press briefings, and apply properly deep concepts like senior scientists on science lectures.

With the proposal of “China’s students’ development core qualities”, the new period puts forward higher requirements for students’ innovative spirit and practical ability. Problem solving, as one of the qualities needed for practical innovation, occupies an important position, and there is very little research on instructional design to improve student problem-solving skills from the perspective of teachers. At the same time, with the continuous development of new technologies such as big data and internet of things, teacher education must also follow the trend. Teachers need to think about how to reshape and grow professionally in the wave of education reform. This article selects a junior high school geography teacher as the research object and tries to construct a teaching design strategy that aims at the cultivation of students’ problem solving skills. There are situation-constructed strategy, task-driven strategy, and thinking-inspired strategy, and based on these strategies we create an aided analysis table and an teaching design evaluation scale, so as to provide valuable reference for teachers’ teaching design, and improve students’ problem-solving abilities.
