A new macrocycle based on diethoxycarbonyl glycoluril 3, C_(26)H_(30)N_6O_(10), has been synthesized and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. It crystallizes in monoclinic, space groupP2_1/c with a= 12.7291(10),b = 25.157(2),c = 8.5489(7) (A),β= 104.4760(10)°, F=2650.7(4) (A)~3, Z = 4, C_(26)H_(30)N_6O_(10), M_r = 586.56, F(000) = 1232, T = 292(2) K, D_c = 1.470 g/cm~3,μ = 0.115 mm~(-1), the final R = 0.0590 and wR = 0.1299 for 4918 observed reflections with I > 2σ(I). In the structure of the title compound, a three-dimensional microporous architecture is formed via intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions.

The synthesis and X-ray crystal structure of a new molecular clip 2 was reported. It (C24H24N4O2, M-r = 400.47) crystallizes in the space group C-2/c with a = 15.587(2), b = 8.5805(12), c = 15.259(2) angstrom, beta = 102.448(3)degrees, V = 1992.9 (5) angstrom(3), Z = 4, D-c = 1.335 g/cm(3), mu = 0.087 mm(-1) and F(000) = 848. It remains monomeric in the crystal and a tape-like structure is formed in the crystal structure of molecular clip. The most unusual structural feature of 2 is the boat conformation of its cyclohexyl ring imposed by the ring fusion at C(9)-C(9a).

The title compound 6H,7H,13H,14H-5a,6a,7a,12a,13a,14a-hxaazbenz[f]indeno[2,1,8-ija]naphth[2,3-f]azulene-14b,14c-dicarboxylic-5,8,12,15-tetrahydro-6,8,14-trioxo-diethyl ester (C27H26N6O7, M-r = 546.54) has been synthesized and its crystal structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal belongs to monoclinic, space group P2(1)/c with a = 8.8129(6), b = 17.9883(13), c = 16.2623(11) angstrom, beta = 98.770(2)degrees, V = 2547.9(3) angstrom(3), Z = 4, D-c = 1.425 g/cm(3), mu(MoK alpha) = 0.105 mm(-1), F(000) = 1144, the final R = 0.0672 and wR = 0.1162 for 2275 observed reflections with I > 2 sigma(I). The crystal structural analysis shows that intermolecular C-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonds and pi center dot center dot center dot pi stacking interactions result in a three-dimensional framework. The binding study by fluorescence spectroscopy titration showed that he title compound can selectively recognize Fe3+ with fluorescence quenching.

A pair of novel fluorescent molecular clips was synthesized from diethoxycarbonal glycoluril cyclic ether and 1,2-dihydroindazol-3-one. Their structures and conformations were confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction and chemosensory properties were studied by fluorescent spectroscope. Both of them exhibited selective recognition toward Fe3+ over other metal ions examined in DMF/CH3OH (50:1, v/v). (c) 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

The title compound 4-azido-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-l-oxyl (C9H17N4O, Mr = 197.27) has been synthesized and its structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal belongs to triclinic, space group P1^- with a = 5.8464(12), b = 8.2476(17), c = 11.954(2) A°, a = 101.973(4), β = 97.186(3), γ, = 100.232(3)°, V = 546.98(19) ,A°^3, Z = 2, Dc= 1.198 g/cm^3, μ(MoKa) = 0.082 mm^-1, F(000) = 214, R = 0.0495 and wR = 0.1355 for 1677 observed reflections with I 〉 2σ(I). X-ray analysis reveals that the six-membered ring adopts a chair conformation and the bond length of N(1)-O(1) is 1.2838(19)A°.
