Much research on brainstorming has found that the power of a team can stimulate individual creativity, and that this influence is more prominent in computer-mediated online interactions. However, creativity appears to depend on the outcome of combining certain environmental factors with certain kinds of Individual characteristics. Two experiments using electronic brainstorming were conducted in this study to examine the creative performance of individuals with different cognitive styles in several creative fields and with various environmental cues. Overall, it was found that cognitive styles significantly affected the creativity of individuals. Creative performances of individuals with field-independent cognitive styles were more stable than those of individuals with field-dependent cognitive styles. However, the appearance of environmental cues reversed this particular effect. When cues were present, there were no significant differences between the creativity of field-dependent and field-independent individuals. The findings provide empirical evidence for improving the creativity of field-dependent individuals and have significant implications for education and talent cultivation.

Motivation is key to the generation of creative ideas, intrinsic motivation is the core driving force of creativity. Researchers believe that individuals with higher intrinsic motivation will produce higher novelty and flexibility. Creativity may also be influenced by environmental cues, which are objects in the environment that individuals can use to solve problems. This study investigated the influence of intrinsic motivation and environmental cues on social creativity and whether there is an interaction effect of intrinsic motivation and environmental cues on the process of electronic brainstorming (EBS). The results showed that individuals generated more ideas (both in quantity and type) when presented with more cues. In this process, the influence of the number of cues on the fluency and flexibility of social creativity was regulated by intrinsic motivation. The more novel the cues, the higher the overall level of originality of the ideas generated by participants. In this process, the influence of the novelty of cues on the effectiveness and fluency of social creativity was regulated by intrinsic motivation. This study offers a fresh theoretical perspective on the complicated relationship between intrinsic motivation and creativity. Furthermore, it provides empirical evidence to inform training on social creativity for university students.

Previous studies have been inconsistent regarding the number of cues in the brainstorming process that have a promotive or inhibitory effect on individuals' idea generation. Further, this issue has not been examined from the perspective of individual characteristics. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the influence of environmental cues and motivation on individuals' idea generation to determine the presence of an interaction between environmental cues and motivation in this process. The sample included 156 Chinese undergraduates as participants in two parallel experiments that were designed and implemented to study the influence of the number and novelty of environmental cues on idea generation in an electronic brainstorming task. The role of motivation level as an intrinsic factor was also explored. Findings showed that the number of environmental cues significantly influenced the novelty of idea generation, which was regulated by motivation level. Additionally, the novelty of cues and motivation could significantly affect the number of ideas generated.

摘要:
We aimed to determine how charitable behavior affects life satisfaction through the multiple mediating roles of self-acceptance and positive affect. We recruited 4,048 adults in China who voluntarily completed a survey on the frequency of their charitable behavior, self-acceptance, positive affect, and life satisfaction. Results of a parallel multivariable mediation analysis showed that more frequent charitable behavior was positively associated with greater life satisfaction. Also, self-acceptance and positive affect mediated the relationship between charitable behavior and life satisfaction. Implications for the mediating effect of charitable behavior on life satisfaction are discussed.

The neural mechanism underlying creativity has been identified and confirmed by numerous studies. This current exploratory study compared the neural basis between social creativity and general creativity and explored the effect of creative personality on their neural basis by employing multiple regression analysis. The EEG activities of 34 participants were recorded during social or general creative tasks. The results indicated that a stronger alpha event-related synchronization (ERS) was presented during the social creative task than during the general creative task. High creative personality individuals were found to exhibit higher event-related desynchronization (ERD) only for the upper alpha band. Additionally, high creative personality individuals revealed no significant task differences regarding the alpha ERS. However, low creative personality individuals exhibited a stronger alpha ERS for social creative tasks than they did for general creative tasks. The current investigation could lead to new approaches for examining the brain correlates of creativity from different domains and their correlations with respect to creative personality.

This study compared the role of the parent and grandparent in the adjustment of children who had, and who had not, been left behind when their parents moved to urban areas for work, and tested whether self-esteem mediated the association between these family relationships and child adjustment. The sample included 428 middle school students in central China, 204 of whom were left-behind children who were cared for by grandparents and 224 of whom were not left behind. The students responded to five questionnaires measuring parent-child relationships, grandparent-child relationships, self-esteem, life satisfaction and school engagement. Regression analyses showed that self-esteem mediated the association between parent-child and grandparent-child relationships and children's adjustment, but there were different patterns of association for the non-left-behind children and left-behind children groups. Furthermore, the unique effect of parent-child relationships was higher than that of grandparent-child relationships for the non-left-behind children, but for the left-behind children, grandparent-child relationships played a more important role than grandparent-child relationships in predicting their school engagement, and parent-child relationships played a more important role in predicting their life satisfaction. Parents who are far away and grandparents who are close at hand can shape different psychological and behavioral development outcomes of left-behind children.
