The Xi(K) over bar interaction is dynamically investigated in a chiral quark model by resolving the resonating group method (RGM) equation. The model parameters are taken from our previous work, which gave a satisfactory description of the energies of the baryon ground states, the binding energy of the deuteron, the nucleon -nucleon (NN) scattering phase shifts and the hyperon -nucleon (YN) cross sections. The results show that the S-wave isospin I = 0 Xi(K) over bar interaction is attractive, and in the extended chiral SU(3) quark model such attraction can make for a Xi(K) over bar bound state with 3 MeV binding energy. Furthermore the behavior of the one-gluon exchange and the vector-meson exchange is examined and it is found that the one-gluon exchange is strongly repulsive while the vector-meson exchange offers weak attraction in the Xi(K) over bar system.

The coherent exciton transport on a class of deterministic and random scale-free networks (DSFNs and RSFNs) generated by simple rules is studied in this paper. The coherent exciton dynamics is modeled by continuous-time quantum walks, and we calculate the transition probabilities between two nodes of the networks. We find that the transport depends on the initial nodes of the excitation. For DSFNs, the probabilities of finding the excitation at the initial central nodes are nearly periodic, in contrast to the flat behavior found for RSFNs. In the long time limit, the transition probabilities on DSFNs show characteristic patterns with identical values. For RSFNs, we find that the excitation is most likely to be found at the initial nodes with high connectivity. All these features of quantum transport are significantly different from those of the classical transport modeled by continuous-time random walks.

We study the coherent exciton transport of continuous-time quantum walks (CTQWs) on Erdös–Rényi networks. We numerically investigate the transition probability between two nodes of the networks, and compare the classical and quantum transport efficiency on networks of different connectivity. In the long time limiting, we find that there is a high probability to find the exciton at the initial node. We also study how the network parameters affect such high return probability.

Photoproduction reactions occur when the electromagnetic field of a relativistic heavy ion interacts with another heavy ion. The STAR Collaboration presents a measurement of rho(0) and direct pi(+)pi(-) photoproduction in ultraperipheral relativistic heavy ion collisions at root s(NN) = 200 GeV. We observe both exclusive photoproduction and photoproduction accompanied by mutual Coulomb excitation. We find a coherent cross section of sigma(AuAu -> Au*Au*rho(0)) = 530 +/- 19(stat.) +/- 57(syst.) mb, in accord with theoretical calculations based on a Glauber approach, but considerably below the predictions of a color dipole model. The rho 0 transverse momentum spectrum (p(T)(2)) is fit by a double exponential curve including both coherent and incoherent coupling to the target nucleus; we find sigma(inc)/sigma(coh) = 0.29 +/- 0.03 (stat.) +/- 0.08 (syst.). The ratio of direct pi(+)pi(-) to rho(0) production is comparable to that observed in gamma(p) collisions at HERA and appears to be independent of photon energy. Finally, the measured rho(0) spin helicity matrix elements agree within errors with the expected s-channel helicity conservation.

In this paper, we consider the quantum-mechanical phase space patterns on ordered and disordered networks. For ordered networks in which each node is connected to its 2m nearest neighbors ( m on either side), the phase space quasiprobability of Wigner function shows various patterns. In the long time limit, on even-numbered networks, we find an asymmetric quasiprobability between the node and its opposite node. This asymmetry depends on the network parameters and specific phase space positions. For disordered networks in which each edge is rewired with probability p>0, the phase space displays regional localization on the initial node.

We study the coherent exciton transport on Apollonian networks generated by simple iterative rules. The coherent exciton dynamics is modeled by continuous-time quantum walks and we calculate the transition probabilities between two nodes of the networks. We find that the transport depends on the initial nodes of the excitation. For networks up to the second generation the coherent transport shows perfect recurrences when the initial excitation starts at the central node. For networks of higher generation, the transport only shows partial revivals. Moreover, we find that the excitation is most likely to be found at the initial nodes while the coherent transport to other nodes has a very low probability. In the long time limit, the transition probabilities show characteristic patterns with identical values of limiting probabilities. Finally, the dynamics of quantum transport are compared with the classical transport modeled by continuous-time random walks.

The standard model of particle physics predicts a complex structure of decay modes for hadrons, which opens up an avenue for observing the internal forces governing the decay dynamics. In this paper, we present the decay modes of hadrons as a network in which the nodes are particles and directed links are pointing from the mother particles to daughter particles. Using the database of decay modes collected from the Particle Data Group, we try to unveil the topological structure and possible intrinsic nature of hadron decays in the light of recent investigations of complex networks. We study distributions of the numbers of daughter and mother particles, and explore scaling laws that may govern the underlying decay structure of the system. We find that it is a small-world network with symmetrical structure. We also study the influence of constraints arising from conservation laws on the network structure, and our analysis suggests that the constraints of conservations of momentum–energy, charge, lepton number and baryon number play important roles in the topology of the decay network. Finally, we classify the hadrons into communities according to their quark component, and uncover the relationship between the particle roles and connection patterns in the communities.

We present the first study of the energy dependence of pt angular correlations inferred from event-wisemean transversemomentum < p(t)> fluctuations in heavy ion collisions. We compare our large-acceptance measurements at CM energies root s(NN) = 19.6, 62.4, 130 and 200 GeV to SPS measurements at 12.3 and 17.3 GeV. p(t) angular correlation structure suggests that the principal source of pt correlations and fluctuations is minijets (minimum-bias parton fragments). We observe a dramatic increase in correlations and fluctuations from SPS to RHIC energies, increasing linearly with 1n root s(NN) from the onset of observable jet-related < p(t)> fluctuations near 10 GeV.

We present a class of collaboration networks, named cross-talk network of China (CTNC), in which two players are considered connected if they have performed one or more comic dialogues together. We study a variety of statistical properties of our networks, including degree distribution, clustering, path length and degree–degree correlation in the one-mode projected network. Besides, we construct a weighted network for CTNC in which the number of comic dialogues performed by two players is mapped to weights. In such representation, we investigate a variety of statistical quantities for CTNC, such as collaboration strength, social inertial defined as a ratio between the strength and the degree, etc. Finally, we compare our empirical results of CTNC with the predictions of a recently proposed theoretical model for the growth of collaboration networks.

We determine rapidity asymmetry in the production of charged pions, protons, and antiprotons for large transverse momentum (p(T)) for d+Au collisions at root s(NN)=200 GeV. The rapidity asymmetry is defined as the ratio of particle yields at backward rapidity (Au beam direction) to those at forward rapidity (d beam direction). The identified hadrons are measured in the rapidity regions |y|< 0.5 and 0.5 <|y|< 1.0 for the p(T) range 2.5 < p(T)< 10 GeV/c. We observe significant rapidity asymmetry for charged pion and proton+antiproton production in both the rapidity regions. The asymmetry is larger for 0.5 <|y|< 1.0 than for |y|< 0.5 and is almost independent of particle type. The measurements are compared to various model predictions employing multiple scattering, energy loss, nuclear shadowing, saturation effects, and recombination and also to a phenomenological parton model. We find that asymmetries are sensitive to model parameters and show model preference. The rapidity dependence of pi(-)/pi(+) and (p) over bar /p ratios in peripheral d+Au and forward neutron-tagged events are used to study the contributions of valence quarks and gluons to particle production at high p(T).

The energies of the low- lying isoscalar and isovector udss configurations with spin-parity J(P) = 0(+), 1(+) and 2(+) are calculated in a non-relativistic constituent quark model by using the variational method. The contributions of various parts of the quark-quark interacting potentials including the s-channel interaction are investigated, and the effect of different forms of the confinement potential is examined. The model parameters are determined by the same method as in our previous work, and they still can satisfactorily describe the nucleon-nucleon scattering phase shifts and the hyperon-nucleon cross sections. The parameters of the s- channel interaction are fixed by the masses of K and K* mesons, for which the size parameter is taken to be two possible values. When it is chosen to be the same as baryons', the numerical results show that the masses of all the udss configurations are higher than the corresponding meson-meson thresholds. But when the size parameter for the K and K* mesons is adjusted to be smaller than that for the baryons, the udss configuration with I = 0 and J(P) = 1(+) is found to lie lower than the K* K* threshold, furthermore, this state has a very small KK* component and the interaction matrix elements between this state and KK* is comparatively small, thus its coupling to the KK* channel will consequently be weak and it might be regarded as a possible tetraquark candidate.
