山川菊荣是20世纪日本重要的社会主义者之一,她的无产阶级妇女解放思想成为20世纪初期日本社会主义女权运动的重要参照.山川菊荣认为日本无产阶级女性深困于资产阶级女权运动的纷扰、封建家族制度的束缚、旧有男尊女卑思想的桎梏之中.对此,她从马克思主义出发,点明妇女问题的根源在于经济问题,澄清资产阶级女权运动对无产阶级女性的虚伪性、压迫性,指出实现无产阶级女性解放的内在力量是全体劳动者的团结,外在依托是无产阶级运动,切实归途是社会主义社会.山川菊荣关于妇女解放的著作一经译介到中国,对早期中国马克思主义者探索中国妇女解放道路产生影响.
