Recent studies show much energy can be saved and the capacity of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) can be significantly increased when route nodes can have variable transmission ranges. However, this will result some problems difficult to be dealt with. It is well known that in WSNs, energy can be saved by setting the redundancy nodes in sleeping mode along the multi-hop routes.
