Cell apoptosis and autophagic cell death are common during insect development and resistance against pathogens. Insect cell apoptosis has been elucidated better than insect cell autophagic death. There are at least three signal transduction pathways in insect cell apoptosis : the first one is similar to nematode apoptosis pathway, the second similar to that used by mammals, and the third independent on caspases.
