Cadmium (Cd) contamination poses a considerable threat to human health through grain enrichment and limits biological nitrogen fixation (BNF) in paddy fields. Biochar has shown great potential for agricultural soil remediation because it inactivates Cd, but uncertainties remain as to how biochar amendments affect BNF and grain N use efficiency in paddies.
