灭绝叙事已成为当代英美动物诗歌创作中不容忽视的主题与技法。以特德·休斯、吉莲·克拉克、彼特·雷丁以及艾莉森·哈奇克拉夫特为代表的当代英美诗人通过扩展物种的历史与未来时间、使用第一人称多声部叙事和嫁接生态殖民史，从地质时间、叙事手段和生态历史等角度，多维度、多层次地勾画出物种多样性降低造成的个人、环境与社会危机，反思了人与非人动物之间无法切割的情感、历史与生态关联。当代英美动物诗歌中的灭绝叙事革新了早期灭绝叙事的传统，显示出介入动物保护的政治姿态，召唤了一种以关系式本体论为特点的多物种伦理观。
