LiNi0.80Co0.20- x Al x O 2 samples (x = 0.025, 0.050 and 0.100) were prepared by a solid-state reaction at 725°C for 24 h from LiOHH2O, Ni2O 3, Co2O3 and Al(OH)3 under oxygen flow. LiNiO2 simultaneously doped by Co-Al has been tried to improve the cathode performance. The results showed that substitution of optimum amount Al and Co at the Ni-site in LiNiO2 improved cycling performance. As a consequence, LiNi0.80Co0.15Al0.05O2 has 178.2 mAh/g of the first discharge capacity and 174.0 mAh/g after 10 cycles.
