A Series of new substituted ferrocene polyiodides with general formula of [(RC5H4)(R'C5H4)Fe3.L were synthesized.The elemental analysis showed that substituted ferrocenes with Et, Ac, and ph as R and R' groups give polyiodides with integer ratios for ferrocene to iodine while ferrocenes with MeCH (OH) substituents give polyiodides with non-integer ratios for ferrocene to iodine. The 57Fe Mossbauer study indicated the oxidation of ferrocenes in these polyiodides to [FcH] + cations with reduced IS values compared to the original-ferrocenes and much reduced (even reached to zero) QS values.
