The fast development of urban built-up areas in China is causing many problems, such as pollution, congestion, etc. How to effectively evaluate the coordination between urban areas and environmental problems has been attracting many scholars worldwide. This paper intends to discover this "secretary" through investigating the built-up areas and their accompanied economic and environmental factors over almost 30 years (1992 to 2020) in Nanjing, China.
