中国的风水说源远流长,在堪舆风水说的影响下,宋代的家族或宗族组织为了保护"龙脉"或"风水",禁止族人或外族人在祖坟山上或附近种植某些经济作物,禁止砍伐祖坟山上及其周围树木,有意无意之中避免了水土流失,这在某种意义上说是为了达到人与自然的和谐统一即"天人合一"而采取的保护生态环境的措施,这些措施对当代的生态环境保护有着可贵的借鉴和参考价值。
