所谓《史通》有几个"亡篇"的说法,与史传记载不相符合,且自相矛盾之处颇多.这些篇名内涵丰富,关联甚广,在书内其他各篇多已有所论述,没有必要别撰单篇.晚唐柳璨著书,逐篇批驳《史通》,共四十九篇,则《史通》篇数亦应相同.刘知幾之著《史通》四十九篇,不多不少,这是在刻意模拟《文心雕龙》,用刘勰的话来说,即"其为文用四十九篇而已".因此,《史通》不可能另有"亡篇".

That there are lost articles in Shitong does not match historical records, and there are many contradictory views in this ar- gument. These titles are so rich in content and wide in relationship that there are many related discourses in many other articles in this book, and there is no need to write other articles. Liu Can＇s criticism of Shitong articles in the late Tang Dynasty involved forty-nine articles, which have to be identical in number with those in Shitong.
