The scope of the novel ruthenium-catalyzed tandem cross-metathesis/ intramolecular-hydroarylation sequence is described. This methodology offers a practical and efficient synthesis of structurally diverse and complex tetrahydrocarbazoles in good to excellent yields (up to 98%).
