In summary, our analyses have indicated that people with depression is 3.17 times likely to have a comorbidity of asthma compared with that of counterparts without depression, and that patients with asthma is 1.52 times like to have a comorbid depression compared with those without asthma. Background: Depression is often present in patients with asthma and vice versa. In this review, we aimed to summarize reports on the comorbidity of depression and asthma, and to seek evidence that the biological mechanisms of allergy may have an important role linking asthma and depression.
