Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI, or Self-Injury, SI) is the intentional destruction of body tissue without suicidal intent and for purposes not socially sanctioned. In a functional view, SI is a dysfunctional behavior for emotion regulation, and the main problem of SI is emotion dysregulation.
