Carbon dots (CDs) synthesized from natural organic precursors, such as glucose, citric acid, glycerol, and chitosan, have attracted great interest since natural organic precursors provide abundant carbon sources, a variety of heteroatoms for doping (such as N, S, and P) and good biocompatibility.
