In this study, a bacterium strain, CZ-31, capable of degrading methyl parathion (MP) was isolated from active sludge of a wastewater treatment pond of a pesticide factory in Hubei province. According to morphological characteristics, physiological properties, and 16S rDNA sequence analysis, the isolates CZ-31 were identified as Arthrobacter ureafaciens. Methyl parathion degradation enzyme mpd gene was cloned by PCR from the genome of strain CZ-31.
