Investigation on grammaticalization of a speech verb ‘shuo’

现代汉语普通话中言说动词"说"的8个义项分属言说行为、言说成果和言说标记三个不同领域,具备多种语用功能。对比方言及其他语言可知,"说"的语法化方向和结果并非孤例,但有些语言中存在现代汉语没有出现的功能。"说"的指向由具体泛化到抽象以表示多种不同功能是其基本演化方向。"说"的语法化经由高频使用、语义漂白、重新分析、转喻机制及主观化和交互主观化等多种动因推动,符合语言发展的整体趋势,具有类型学意义上的参考价值和研究意义。

This paper employs a study to shuo in modern Chinese.Shuo has8senses representing3different fields and possesses some pragmatic functions,such as quotative,quotation,evidential,and subordinator,and serves as a discourse marker.The comparison reveals resemblances and differences between modern Chinese and other languages.The basic evolvement of shuo is to grammaticalize from reference of concreteness to of abstraction with various developments.The agents contributing to grammaticalization include high frequency,semantic bleaching,reanalysis,and ...
