本文从苏曼殊的小说中普遍的自杀现象谈起,试图对晚清革命志士的心理做一次解析,因为苏曼殊的思想气质最能代表当时的革命者.他们只能以传统文化涵养的传统人格来应对需要新的现代人格来支持的中国现代化的责任,虽然他们接受了西方的一些新的思想观念,然而还不足以建立现代文明的精神资源.这个任务有待于新文化运动来完成.

This paper attempts to analyse mentality of revolutionaries of the late Qing Dynasty in Su Man-shu's novels, because Shu Man- shu's mind and temperament was a best mirror to revolution-iaries at that time. Those revolutionaries who were brought up with traditional culture, had to carry the burden of modernizing China before modernizing themselves.
