比人为神仙来赞美他人是中古时期形成的一种人物美学新类型。其最初产生于曹魏时期，晋宋以后的南朝承继了此观念，依旧重视形貌美，女性色彩淡化，突出了超尘脱俗的一面。唐朝继承南朝传统的同时又出现了新的变化，形成了两大模式，为宋以后所沿袭。这一审美观念在中古形成和定型，有各种复杂的原因，影响到唐及以后文学作品中人物形象的塑造和士人的一般性知识，直至当代社会仍有回响。
