结合中国城市化进程和大型体育赛事在中国的发展,将近现代以来大型体育赛事与中国城市化的历史分为3个时间段:1910-1948年、1949-2000年、2001年至今。从体育赛事的发展历史来看,体育赛事的出现和发展与城市有着密切的关系,这需要政府积极转变职能,完善民主制度,科学合理的进行赛事前后评估。
