This paper presents the first report of a highly selective transformation of flavanones to 3-bromoflavones or flavones by microwave irradiation of the corresponding flavanone reactants and N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) in the presence of a catalytic amount of 2,2′-azobis(isobutyronitrile) (AIBN).
