在中国近代，来华西人与中国音乐界的互动交流，形成了海外汉学中的中国音乐文化“共同体”。此“共同体”的学术基础及其研究进展，是中国近代音乐史学的重要组成部分，应当引起音乐史学界的充分重视。近年来，国内音乐学界对这一“共同体”的学术研究，有所关注，但只是一些不成系统的零星作业，尚待推进和深入。本文借助海外汉学学科的学理基础，对中国近代中外音乐交流史研究的必要性、学术基础和学科构建等问题，进行了概略性探讨，以期探索实践“以中释中”→“以西释中”→“阐释和合”→“和而不同”的学术范式，推动中国近代中西音乐交流史学科研究的迈进和完善。
