作为一个封建军阀,在婚姻观方面,虽然张宗昌也主张多妻多妾,却与其他军阀有所不同:他无惧于舆论非议公开纳妾;对妻妾及其他妇女是否贞洁并不十分在意;甚至对妻妾是去是留也保持宽容态度,任其选择;在婚姻形式方面,他又片面追求新潮等等.这种婚姻观形成的原因是多方面的:张宗昌出身贫寒,青少年时期生活困苦,性格豁达大度,同时封建的传统思想和当时的社会环境也对张宗昌的婚姻观产生了一定的影响.张宗昌的婚姻观表面上怪味十足,但如若将之与当时的社会联系起来,则可见怪不怪.
