The phenomenon in which the response of a neuronal network to a weak signal is significantly enhanced in moderate noise is known as stochastic resonance (SR). Most of the previous studies on the transmission of signals by networks have been based on static synaptic connections, whereas dynamic synaptic connections modified by spike-time-dependent plasticity (STDP) are the basis of learning and memory in the nervous system.
