现代汉语中，“想来”是一个具有多种功能和丰富用法的主观标记词，其功能发展的脉络代表了标记词发展的一种趋势。“想来”最基本的功能是表说话人的主观推测，这种主观推测义在不同的语境中呈现出多样化的类型，并由之泛化出主观评价功能和强调标识功能，在语篇和自然会话中又进一步拓展出篇章衔接功能和话语组织功能。“想来”功能拓展的机制主要源于自身语义的抽象泛化及主观化和交互主观化的促动：“想来”的语义内涵丰富，适用语境广泛，极易引发说话人投射更多的主观认识，促进说话人对读者和听话人的聚焦关注。

In modem Chinese, xianglai is a subjective marker with multiple functions and rich usages, and the development of its function represents a trend of the development of marker words.
