本文继《论道德自我》一文之后，从道德教育心理学中存在的理论缺陷以及新儒家诸人关于道德自我议论中的问题出发，论证了从心理学上研究道德自我的缘起和意义；进一步分析论述了道德自我的发展以及人们之间道德自我发展的类型差异的社会意义；此外，还用较多的篇幅论述了道德自我修养提高的意义和途径
