The magnetic anisotropy of rare-earth transition-metal thin films is investiga ted in this paper. Based on the reference review and the analysis of thin film forming process by sputtering, the single ion model has been put foreword. With concrete com putation, we found that when the composition of the film is R31 Co69 and the rare earth element is Tb, the magnetic anisotropy value can be as high as 3.1×106 erg/cm^3.
