Optical communications is the most important technology in the access network. Gigabit-capable passive optical network (GPON) has been viewed as a promising technology for the next-generation fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) optical systems because they can deliver multi-services (e.g. TDM, Ethernet) with the required Quality of Service (QoS).
