A mercaptoacetic acid self-assembled monolayer gold electrode (abbreviated as MA/Au SAE) was prepared, and characterized by cyclic voltammetry, ATR-FTIR and SEM. The electrochemical reaction of dopamine at this electrode was studied. It was found that in an acetate buffer of pH 4. 5, dopamine was electrocatalyzed at MA/Au SAE, and a quasi-reversible response was given, having its potential difference of redox peaks ΔEp = 50 mV.
