美国当代诗歌呈现出清晰的视觉转向趋势。诗人们通过自觉的视觉诗学实践，以视觉驱动的版式建构、语言文字的物质性开发、非语言视觉元素的文本化等方式，强化外在视觉呈现在当代诗歌文本建构及其意义生成机制中的作用。当代视觉诗学不仅深刻改变了诗歌文本的质地与观念，颠覆了传统诗学观和语言观，突破了既有的诗歌艺术范式和阅读模式，具有显著的创新性和美学意义；而且对美国当代文化转向和科技发展作出了回应与反思，彰显了强烈的时代性和文化批判性。
