The 'home-field advantage' (HFA) hypothesis states that litter decomposes faster in its 'home' habitat, i.e., in the same habitat as the plant species from which it was derived than it does 'away' from its home, i.e., in the habitat of a different plant species. However, studies pertaining to HFA in aquatic ecosystems are relatively few.
