My paper A Discussion of 'Qiqu' from the Angles of Standard Dialect, Regional Dialect and Ancient Chinese establishes the uses of 'qiqu' by examination of data from Putonghua, regional dialect and ancient Chinese. This paper examines 'qiqu' in its roles both as verbal complement and full verb, and its uses both in Beijing dialect and regional dialects through an analysis of its form, semantic meaning and pragmatic value, and by a comparison of its uses in Putonghua, regional dialect and ancient Chinese.
