The results of midrapidity (0 < y < 0.8) neutral pion spectra over an extended transverse momentum range (1 < p(T) < 12 GeV/c) in root s(NN) = 200 GeV Au + Au collisions, measured by the STAR experiment, are presented. The neutral pions are reconstructed from photons measured either by the STAR Barrel Electro-Magnetic Calorimeter or by the Time Projection Chamber via tracking of conversion electron-positron pairs. Our measurements are compared to previously published pi(+/-) and pi(0) results. The nuclear modification factors R-CP and R-AA of pi(0) are also presented as a function of p(T). In the most central Au + Au collisions, the binary collision scaled pi(0) yield at high p(T) is suppressed by a factor of about 5 compared to the expectation from the yield of p + p collisions. Such a large suppression is in agreement with previous observations for light quark mesons and is consistent with the scenario that partons suffer considerable energy loss in the dense medium formed in central nucleus-nucleus collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider.

We study the beam-energy and system-size dependence of phi meson production (using the hadronic decay mode phi -> K+ K-) by comparing the new results from Cu + Cu collisions and previously reported Au + Au collisions at root s(NN) = 62.4 and 200 GeV measured in the STAR experiment at RHIC. Data presented in this Letter are from mid-rapidity (vertical bar y vertical bar < 0.5) for 0.4 < p(T) < 5 GeV/c. At a given beam energy, the transverse momentum distributions for phi mesons are observed to be similar in yield and shape for Cu + Cu and Au + Au colliding systems with similar average numbers of participating nucleons. The phi meson yields in nucleus-nucleus collisions, normalized by the average number of participating nucleons, are found to be enhanced relative to those from p + p collisions. The enhancement for phi mesons lies between strange hadrons having net strangeness = 1 (K- and <(A)over bar>) and net strangeness = 2 (Xi). The enhancement for phi mesons is observed to be higher at root s(NN) = 200 GeV compared to 62.4 GeV. These observations for the produced phi(s (s) over bar) mesons clearly suggest that, at these collision energies, the source of enhancement of strange hadrons is related to the formation of a dense partonic medium in high energy nucleus-nucleus collisions and cannot be alone due to canonical suppression of their production in smaller systems. 摘要:
In this paper we reported the preparation and characterization of the nanostrutured CdS/ZnO nanoarray thin film, based on the free-standing ZnO nanorod-array. The method was simple and low-cost. The ZnO nanorod-arrays were synthesized on F-doped tin oxide glass (TCO) substrate by hydrothermal method, then coated with CdS nanoparticles closely via chemical bath deposition method. The resulting thin films showed better photoelectrochemical performances than those of CdS/ZnO nanoparticles thin films. Under the illumination of AM 1.5 simulated sunlight (30 mW/cm2), the photocurrent of the samples achieved to 0.72 mA/cm2.

STAR preliminary results of di-hadron correlations versus s, the trigger particle azimuthal angle relative to the constructed event plane are reported for mid-central collisions and compared to central as well as minimum bias collisions. The correlations are observed to vary with s on both the near and away side of the trigger particle. The away-side correlation evolves from single- to double-peak with increasing s. The near-side correlation is separated into 'jet' and 'ridge': the ridge is found to decrease with s while the jet remains relatively constant.

Recent research shows that Hawking radiation can be treated as a quantum tunneling process, and Hawking temperatures of Dirac particles across the horizon of a black hole can be correctly recovered via the fermion tunneling method. In this paper, motivated by the fermion tunneling method, we attempt to apply the analysis to derive Hawking radiation of Dirac particles via tunneling from black ring solutions of 5-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton gravity theory. Finally, it is interesting to find that, as in the black hole case, fermion tunneling can also result in correct Hawking temperatures for the rotating neutral, dipole, and charged black rings.

Recent research shows that fermions tunnelling can result in correct Hawking temperature of a black hole. In this letter, choosing a set of appropriate matrices gamma(mu), we attempt to study Hawking radiation of Dirac particles across the horizons of the GHS and non-extremal five-dimensional D1-D5 black holes in string theory by using fermions tunnelling method. Finally, the expected Hawking temperatures of the GHS and non-extremal D1-D5 black holes are correctly recovered. (C) 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A transport model based on the mean free path approach to describe pp collisions is proposed. We assume that hadrons can be treated as bags of partons similarly to the MIT bag model. When the energy density in the collision is higher than a critical value, the bags break and partons are liberated. The partons expand and can coalesce to form new hadrons. The results obtained compare very well with available data, and some predictions for higher energies collisions are discussed. Based on the model we suggest that a QGP could already be formed in pp collisions at high energies.
