From the study of even and odd multiplicity distributions for hadron-hadron collision in different rapidity windows, we propose a simple picture for charge correlation with nonzero correlation length and calculate the multiplicity distributions and the normalized moments in different rapidity windows at different energies. The results explain the experimentally observed coincidence and separation of even and odd distributions and also the anomalous energy dependence of normalized moments in narrow rapidity windows. The reason for the separation of even-odd distributions, appearing first at large multiplicities, is shown to be energy conservation. The special role of no-particle events in narrow rapidity windows is pointed out.

By using FIM, high-transition-temperature superconducting Bi2(Sr, Ca)3Cu2O(y) has been examined with H-2 and Ar imaging gases. Two kinds of FIM images, lines and spots, have been observed and analyzed. Both patterns convincingly show the lamellate structure of the specimens. The periodicity of the FIM image patterns is consistent with the proposed models, and some new patterns are observed and discussed.

摘要:
The rapidity distributions of shower particles in high-energy nucleus-nucleus collisions are investigated and compared with that in hadron-hadron and hadron-nucleus collisions. The remarkable difference in the correlation between rapidity distribution and multiplicity in the three cases, as well as the scaling of rapidity distribution in the target region and the nonscaling of the same distribution in the central region, are explained.

The energy, target-mass, and rapidity-window independence or approximate independence of the multiplicity moments in high-energy nucleus-nucleus collisions are analyzed. It is pointed out that all of these properties are due to nuclear geometry. It is proved under general conditions that, when the target mass is not extremely light and the rapidity window not very narrow, the normalized moments of multiplicity are approximately equal to that of the number of participating nucleons. The calculated results for both minimum-bias and central events agree with recent experimental data.
