A search for
$$ {B}_s^0\to {\overline{D}}^0{f}_0(980) $$
decays is performed using 3.0 fb1− of pp collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment during 2011 and 2012. The f0(980) meson is reconstructed through its decay to the π+π− final state in the mass window 900 MeV/c2 < m(π+π−) < 1080 MeV/c2. No significant signal is observed. The first upper limits on the branching fraction of
$$ \mathrm{\mathcal{B}}\left({B}_s^0\to {\overline{D}}^0{f}_0(980)\right)<3.1(3.4)\times 1{0}^{-6} $$
are set at 90 % (95 %) confidence level.

A search is presented for long-lived particles with a mass between 25 and 50
$$\mathrm{GeV}/\mathrm{c}^{2}$$
and a lifetime between 1 and 200
$$\mathrm{\,ps}$$
in a sample of proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of
$$\sqrt{s}=7$$
TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.62
$$\text{ fb }^{-1}$$
, collected by the LHCb detector. The particles are assumed to be pair-produced by the decay of a standard model-like Higgs boson. The experimental signature of the long-lived particle is a displaced vertex with two associated jets. No excess above the background is observed and limits are set on the production cross-section as a function of the long-lived particle mass and lifetime.

A search for time-integrated CP violation in the Cabibbo-suppressed decay D-0 -> pi(-)pi(+)pi(0) ir is performed using for the first time an unbinned model-independent technique known as the energy test. Using proton-proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb(-1) collected by the LHCb detector at a centre-of-mass energy of root s = 8 TeV, the world's best sensitivity to CP violation in this decay is obtained. The data are found to be consistent with the hypothesis of CP symmetry with a p-value of (2.6 +/- 0.5)%. (C) 2014 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

A study of B and Bs meson decays into J/ψ η and J/ψ η′ final states is performed using a data set of proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV, collected by the LCHb experiment and corresponding to 3.0 fb−1 of integrated luminosity. The decay B0 → J/ψ η′ is observed for the first time. The following ratios of branching fractions are measured:
$$ \begin{array}{c}\hfill \frac{\mathrm{\mathcal{B}}\left({\mathrm{B}}^0\to \mathrm{J}/{\uppsi \upeta}^{\prime}\right)}{\mathrm{\mathcal{B}}\left({\mathrm{B}}_{\mathrm{s}}^0\to\ \mathrm{J}/{\uppsi \upeta}^{\prime}\right)} = \left(2.28\pm 0.65\ \left(\mathrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.10\ \left(\mathrm{syst}\right)\pm 0.13\ \left(\mathrm{fs}/\mathrm{f}\mathrm{d}\right)\right)\times 1{0}^{-2},\hfill \\ {}\hfill \frac{\mathrm{\mathcal{B}}\left({\mathrm{B}}^0\to\ \mathrm{J}/\uppsi \upeta \right)}{\mathrm{\mathcal{B}}\left({\mathrm{B}}_{\mathrm{s}}^0\to\ \mathrm{J}/\uppsi \upeta \right)} = \left(1.85\pm 0.61\ \left(\mathrm{stat}\right)\pm 0.09\ \left(\mathrm{syst}\right)\pm 0.11\ \left(\mathrm{fs}/\mathrm{f}\mathrm{d}\right)\right)\times 1{0}^{-2},\hfill \end{array} $$
where the third uncertainty is related to the present knowledge of fs/fd, the ratio between the probabilities for a b quark to form a Bs or a B0 meson. The branching fraction ratios are used to determine the parameters of η − η′ meson mixing. In addition, the first evidence for the decay Bs → ψ(2S)η′ is reported, and the relative branching fraction is measured,
$$ \frac{\mathrm{\mathcal{B}}\left({\mathrm{B}}_{\mathrm{s}}^0\to\ \uppsi \left(2\mathrm{S}\right){\upeta}^{\prime}\right)}{\mathrm{\mathcal{B}}\left({\mathrm{B}}_{\mathrm{s}}^0\to\ \mathrm{J}/{\uppsi \upeta}^{\prime}\right)} = \left(38.7\pm 9.0\ \left(\mathrm{stat}\right)\pm 1.3\ \left(\mathrm{syst}\right)\pm 0.9\left(\mathrm{\mathcal{B}}\right)\right)\times 1{0}^{-2}, $$
where the third uncertainty is due to the limited knowledge of the branching fractions of J/ψ and ψ(2S) mesons.

The production of the
$$\eta _c (1S)$$
state in proton-proton collisions is probed via its decay to the
$$p\overline{p}$$
final state with the LHCb detector, in the rapidity range
$$2.0 < y < 4.5$$
and in the meson transverse-momentum range
$$p_\mathrm{T} > 6.5 \mathrm{{\,GeV/}{ c}} $$
. The cross-section for prompt production of
$$\eta _c (1S)$$
mesons relative to the prompt
$${{ J}}/{\psi } $$
cross-section is measured, for the first time, to be
$$\sigma _{\eta _c (1S)}/\sigma _{{{{ J}}/{\psi }}} = 1.74\, \pm \,0.29\, \pm \, 0.28\, \pm \,0.18 _{{\mathcal{B}}}$$
at a centre-of-mass energy
$${\sqrt{s}} = 7 {~\mathrm{TeV}}$$
using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.7fb
$$^{-1}$$
, and
$$\sigma _{\eta _c (1S)}/\sigma _{{{{ J}}/{\psi }}} = 1.60 \pm 0.29 \pm 0.25 \pm 0.17 _{{\mathcal{B}}}$$
at
$${\sqrt{s}} = 8 {~\mathrm{TeV}}$$
using 2.0fb
$$^{-1}$$
. The uncertainties quoted are, in order, statistical, systematic, and that on the ratio of branching fractions of the
$$\eta _c (1S)$$
and
$${{ J}}/{\psi } $$
decays to the
$$p\overline{p}$$
final state. In addition, the inclusive branching fraction of
$${b} $$
-hadron decays into
$$\eta _c (1S)$$
mesons is measured, for the first time, to be
$${\mathcal{B}}( b {\rightarrow } \eta _c X ) = (4.88\, \pm \,0.64\, \pm \,0.29\, \pm \, 0.67 _{{\mathcal{B}}}) \times 10^{-3}$$
, where the third uncertainty includes also the uncertainty on the
$${{ J}}/{\psi } $$
inclusive branching fraction from
$${b} $$
-hadron decays. The difference between the
$${{ J}}/{\psi } $$
and
$$\eta _c (1S)$$
meson masses is determined to be
$$114.7 \pm 1.5 \pm 0.1 {\mathrm {\,MeV\!/}c^2} $$

We report a study of the suppressed B- -> DK-pi(+)pi(-) and favored B- -> D pi(-)pi(+)pi(-) decays, where the neutral D meson is detected through its decays to the K--/+pi(+/-) and CP -even K+K- and pi(+)pi(-) final states. The measurement is carried out using a proton-proton collision data sample collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1). We observe the first significant signals in the CP - even final states of the D meson for both the suppressed B- -> DK-pi(+)pi(-) and favored B- -> D pi(-)pi(+)pi(-) modes, as well as in the doubly Cabibbo suppressed D -> K+pi(-) final state of the B- -> D pi(-)pi(+)pi(-) decay. Evidence for the suppressed decay B- -> DK-pi(+)pi(-), with D -> K+pi(-), is also presented. From the observed yields in the B- -> DK-pi(+)pi(-), B- -> D pi(-)pi(+)pi(-) and their charge conjugate decay modes, the most probable value of the weak phase gamma corresponds to gamma = (74(-19)(+20))degrees. This is one of the most precise single-measurement determinations of gamma to date.

Measurements are presented of the branching fractions of the decays B-s(0) -> D-s(-/+) K--/+ and B-0 -> Ds-K+ relative to the decays B-s(0) -> D-s(-)pi(+) and B-0 -> D-s(-)pi(+), respectively. The data used correspond to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions. The ratios of branching fractions are B(B-s(0) -> D-s(-/+) K--/+)/B(B-s(0) -> D-s(-)pi(+)) = 0.0752 +/- 0.0015 +/- 0.0019 and B(B-0 -> Ds-K+)/B(B-0 -> D-pi(+)) = 0.0129 +/- 0.0005 +/- 0.0008, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

The first measurement of decay-time-dependent CP asymmetries in the decay B-S(0) -> J/psi K-S(0) and an updated measurement of the ratio of branching fractions B(B-S(0) -> J/psi K-S(0))/B(B-0 -> J/psi K-S(0)) are presented. The results are obtained using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions recorded with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV. The results on the CP asymmetries are A(Delta Gamma)(B-S(0) -> J/psi K-S(0)) = 0.49 +/- (0.77)(0.65)(stat) +/- 0.06(syst), C-dir(B-S(0) -> J/psi K-S(0)) = -0.28 +/- 0.41(stat) +/- 0.08(syst), S-mix(B-S(0) -> J/psi K-S(0)) = -0.08 +/- 0.40(stat) +/- 0.08(syst). The ratio B(B-S(0) -> J/psi K-S(0))/B(B-0 -> J/psi K-S(0)) is measured to be 0.0431 +/- 0.0017(stat) +/- 0.0012(syst) +/- 0.0025(f(s)/f(d)), where the last uncertainty is due to the knowledge of the B-S(0) and B-0 production fractions.

The B- -> D+K-pi(-) decay is observed in a data sample corresponding to 3.0 fb(-1) of pp collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment during 2011 and 2012. Its branching fraction is measured to be B(B- -> D+K-pi(-)) = (7.31 +/- 0.19 +/- 0.22 +/- 0.39) x 10(-5) where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic and from the branching fraction of the normalization channel B- -> D+pi(-)pi(-), respectively. An amplitude analysis of the resonant structure of the B- -> D+K-pi(-) decay is used to measure the contributions from quasi-two-body B- -> D-0* (2400)K-0(-), B- -> D-2* (2460)K-0(-), and B- -> D-J* (2760)K-0(-) decays, as well as from nonresonant sources. The D-J* (2760)(0) resonance is determined to have spin 1.

Time-dependent CP asymmetries in the decay rates of the singly Cabibbo-suppressed decays D0 → K−K+ and D0 → π
−
π
+
are measured in pp collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb−1 collected by the LHCb experiment. The D0 mesons are produced in semileptonic b-hadron decays, where the charge of the accompanying muon is used to determine the initial state as D0 or
$$ {\overline{D}}^0 $$
. The asymmetries in effective lifetimes between D0 and
$$ {\overline{D}}^0 $$
decays, which are sensitive to indirect CP violation, are determined to be
$$ \begin{array}{c}\hfill {A}_{\varGamma}\left({K}^{-}{K}^{+}\right)=\left(-0.134\pm 0.0{77}_{-0.034}^{-0.026}\right)\%,\hfill \\ {}\hfill {A}_{\varGamma}\left({\pi}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right) = \left(-0.092\pm 0.{145}_{-0.033}^{-0.025}\right)\%,\hfill \end{array} $$
where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. This result is in agreement with previous measurements and with the hypothesis of no indirect CP violation in D0 decays.

A search is performed for heavy long-lived charged particles using 3.0
$${\rm fb}^{-1}$$
of proton–proton collisions collected at
$$\sqrt{s}$$
$$=$$
7 and 8TeV with the LHCb detector. The search is mainly based on the response of the ring imaging Cherenkov detectors to distinguish the heavy, slow-moving particles from muons. No evidence is found for the production of such long-lived states. The results are expressed as limits on the Drell–Yan production of pairs of long-lived particles, with both particles in the LHCb pseudorapidity acceptance,
$$1.8 < \eta < 4.9$$
. The mass-dependent cross-section upper limits are in the range 2–4fb (at 95% CL) for masses between 14 and 309
$${\mathrm {\,GeV\!/}c^2}$$
.

We prepared Bi3O4Cl single-crystalline nanosheets with high {001} facet exposure percentages and demonstrated that their photoreactivity strongly depended on the magnitude of the internal electric field (IEF), which was correlated with the {001} facet exposure percentage. More {001} facet exposure could induce the generation of stronger IEF, which favored the photogenerated charge separation and transfer, and thus enhancing the photoreactivity.

The production of χ
b
mesons in proton-proton collisions is studied using a data sample collected by the LHCb detector, at centre-of-mass energies of
$$ \sqrt{s} $$
=7 and 8 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb−1. The χ
b
mesons are identified through their decays to ϒ(1S)γ and ϒ(2S)γ using photons that converted to e
+
e
− pairs in the detector. The relative prompt production rate of χ
b1(1P) and χ
b2(1P) mesons is measured as a function of the ϒ(1S) transverse momentum in the χ
b
rapidity range 2.0 < y <4.5. A precise measurement of the χ
b
(3P) mass is also performed. Assuming a mass splitting between the χ
b1(3P) and the χ
b2(3P) states of 10.5 MeV/c2, the measured mass of the χ
b1(3P) meson is
$$ m\left({\chi}_{b1}(3P)\right)=10515.{7}_{-3.9}^{+2.2}{\left(\mathrm{stat}\right)}_{-2.1}^{+1.5}\left(\mathrm{syst}\right)\mathrm{M}\mathrm{e}\mathrm{V}/{\mathrm{c}}^2. $$
