摘要:
We present the design, analysis, and measurement of a triple-band linear and circular reflective polarizer based on an E-shaped metamaterial. Measured results show that the proposed reflective polarizer can convert a linearly polarized wave to its cross-polarized wave at the three resonant frequencies, which can also convert the linearly polarized wave to a circularly polarized wave at three other resonant frequencies. Furthermore, the reflective wave can maintain the same rational direction at the three resonant frequencies when the incident is a circularly polarized wave. The simulated and measured results are in agreement in the entire frequency range, and the polarization conversion ratio (PCR) is over 90% for both linear and circular polarizations. The mechanism of polarization conversion is interpreted by using surface current distributions.

摘要:
Both the magnetic toroidal dipolar (MTD) response and electric toroidal dipolar (ETD) response have been achieved and studied in the microwave region by designing a feasible planar metamaterial. By changing the polarized direction of a normally incident wave, two different coupling modes are observed, and therefore MTD and ETD responses can be achieved accordingly. It is also confirmed by scattered powers for various multipole moments and field distributions that they dominate over other traditional multipole responses at 5.69 GHz and 11.69 GHz, respectively. In view of the design feasibility of planar metamaterial, these resonance-enhanced MTD and ETD responses could provide an avenue for various interesting phenomena associated with the elusive toroidal moments.

A multi-band circular polarizer using a twisted triple split-ring resonator (TSRR) is presented and studied numerically and experimentally. At four distinct resonant frequencies, the incident linearly polarized wave can be transformed into left/right-handed circularly polarized waves. Numerical simulation results show that a y-polarized wave can be converted into a right-handed circularly polarized wave at 5.738 GHz and 9.218 GHz, while a left-handed circularly polarized wave is produced at 7.292 GHz and 10.118 GHz. The experimental results are in agreement with the numerical results. The surface current distributions are investigated to illustrate the polarization transformation mechanism. Furthermore, the influences of the structure parameters of the circular polarizer on transmission spectra are discussed as well.

In this work, a kind of bilayered chiral metamaterial with double-T-shape combined structure is proposed to exhibit dual-band asymmetric transmission (AT) of linear polarization when the electromagnetic waves propagate forward and backward. Simulated and measured results demonstrate that the proposed metamaterial can rigorously satisfy the AT theorem. The cross-polarized conversion for the measurement reaches a maximum of 95%. In addition, a conspicuous broadband AT effect with the bandwidth of 2.32 GHz can be obtained by simply adjusting the thickness of the dielectric layer. Such a bilayered approach and adjustable property can be generalized to a wide variety of meta-dielectric metamaterial geometries, and the proposed metamaterial can effectually manipulate the linearly polarized electromagnetic waves.
摘要:
An ultra-thin chiral metamaterial absorber (CMMA) is constructed from twisted 'L-shaped' folded metallic wires. In particular, it has high selectivity for left-handed and right-handed circular polarized (LCP and RCP) incident waves, which is impossible in traditional metamaterial absorbers. The thickness of the CMMA is only 0.8 mm, with absorption of 93.2% for LCP and 8.4% for RCP waves, respectively. This superb performance can be applied in homogeneous circular polarizers for an arbitrarily polarized incident wave with high polarization conversion efficiency. Meanwhile, current distributions, retrieval results and multipole theory have been used in analyzing the absorption mechanism. Microwave experiments are performed to successfully realize these ideas, and measured results are in good agreement with the numerical results.

摘要:
An enhanced broadband metamaterial based on lumped elements is presented.The structure is composed of lumped elements and two conductive layers with a single substrate (FR-4) between them.The simulation results show that the bandwidth of absorption of 80% is about 10.58 GHz and the full width at half maximum (FWHM) can be up to 92%.The further simulations of the proposed MA can operate at a wide range of incident angles under both transverse electric and transverse magnetic polarizations.

摘要:
A metamaterial (MM) resonator composed of double V-shape metal wires shows the different manipulations of the transmission and reflection.Parametric studies on the MM reveal that it can work as dual-direction absorber or polarization transformer based on the electric and magnetic resonance between the metal layers.The investigation shows that the absorption of MM resonator is 953% at 12.1GHz; and the MM resonator can turn vertical polarized EM waves into horizontal polarized EM waves with polarization conversion ratio (PCR) of78% at 10.2 GHz.The potential application for microwave dualdirectional ideal absorbing and polarization transformation are discussed respectively.

摘要:
A new kind of metamaterial composed of metallic split-ring structure arranged in a two-dimensional array is designed, which shows the multipoles' resonances, especially the magnetic toroidal dipolar (MTD) resonance. The calculated scattering power proves that the resonance at 14.416 GHz is mainly excited by MTD response. Compared with the other two resonances excited by normal multipoles, MTD response has the strongest dependence on permittivity of substrate and background material, which has potential applications on permittivity sensor.

摘要:
A combined element method is proposed which can be applied in designing dual-band metamaterial absorber. A dual-band metamaterial absorber is presented by introducing two elements in one unit cell. We first give two absorptive peaks which are verified by experiments. Two absorption peaks appear near 9.02 GHz and 11.85 GHz with magnitude of 99.3% and 99.4%, respectively. Second, current and field distribution is given to better understand the physical mechanism of the absorption. What is worth noting, the power scattered by the electric and magnetic dipole is also displayed which can help us solve some obscure problems. At last, we investigated the effects of the dielectric-spacer thickness on the absorption. It is found that the thickness of the dielectric spacer provide sensitive effects on the magnetic resonance.

We report on a new kind of planar left-handed metamaterial with both simulations and experiments in this article. Dual electric and magnetic resonance frequency bands are experimentally realized by introducing two different metallic elements in one unit cell, which offers a convenient approach in building dual-band or multiband negative-index metamaterials. The effective electromagnetic parameters obtained from the measured S-parameters indicate that negative refractive indexes are verified near 8.5 and 12 GHz with both negative permittivity and negative permeability. Field and current distribution at the dual resonances are also examined. At last, we calculated the radiated power of the magnetic dipole moments along y-axis. The idea can help us to fabricate dual-band or multiband metamaterial absorbers, filters, and antennas. (C) 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel multi-band circular polarizer is proposed by using a bilayered chiral metamaterial (CMM). The unit cell of the CMM is composed of four Archimedean spiral structures, which are twisted 90°to each other in the upper and bottom layers. When a linearly polarized wave incidents on this circular polarizer, the simulation result shows that the transmission of right circularly polarized (RCP) wave can be obtained at 14.28 GHz and 15.96 GHz, while the transmission of left circularly polarized (LCP) wave is emitted at 15.3 GHz and 16.88 GHz. The retrieval results reveal that the effective refractive index of the CMM closes to zero or negative at the vicinity of four resonances. The experimental results are in good agreement with the numerical results.
摘要:
We numerically and experimentally demonstrate a tunable electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT)-like spectral response in a self-asymmetric planar metamaterial in microwave region. This EIT-like physical mechanism is characterized by magnetic dipole coupling induced transparency, which is different from classical properties of EIT-like phenomenon. Our proposed system can be better explained by making an analogy to three-level Λ-type system. Further study also revealed that an ultra-broadband transparency window with the maximum bandwidth up to 7.8 GHz, extending from 6.1 GHz to 13.9 GHz, could be realized by simply adjusting the depth of the structure.
