Using the formalism obtained from collinear expansion, we calculate the differential cross section and azimuthal asymmetries in the semi-inclusive deeply inelastic lepton-nucleon (nucleus) scattering process e−+N(A)→e−+q+X with both polarized beam and polarized target up to twist-3. We derive the azimuthal asymmetries in terms of twist-3 parton correlation functions. We simplify the results by using the QCD equation of motion that leads to a set of relationships between different twist-3 functions. We further study the nuclear dependence of azimuthal asymmetries and show that they have similar suppression factors as those in the unpolarized reactions.

摘要:
The shear viscosity ηand entropy density s of a hadron gas with zero baryon number density are calculated using the Chapman-Enskog and virial expansion approaches, respectively. Interactions are included via the K-matrix parametrization of cross sections preserving the unitarity of the S-matrix. In the four component mixture (π-K - N - η), a total of 57 resonances up to 2 GeV mass are included. Interactions forming resonances reduce the magnitude of ηand increase s, both effects serving to progressively reduce η/s as the temperature nears the QCD phase transition temperature.

摘要:
Medium modification of gamma-tagged jets in high-energy heavy-ion collisions is investigated within a linearized Boltzmann transport model which includes both elastic parton scattering and induced gluon emission. In Pb + Pb collisions at root s = 2.76 TeV, a gamma-tagged jet is seen to lose 15% of its energy at 0-10% central collisions. Simulations also point to a sizable azimuthal angle broadening of gamma-tagged jets at the tail of a distribution which should be measurable when experimental errors are significantly reduced. An enhancement at large z(jet) = p(L)/E-jet in jet fragmentation function at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) can be attributed to the dominance of leading particles in the reconstructed jet. A gamma-tagged jet fragmentation function is shown to be more sensitive to jet quenching, therefore a better probe of the jet transport parameter. (c) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

We implement the complete set of elastic 2 -> 2 parton scattering processes in the Linearized Boltzmann Transport (LBT) model to study the parton propagation inside a hot quark-gluon plasma. We calculate and compare the elastic energy loss and the transverse momentum distribution of quarks and gluons. We further simulate a single jet propagation and the induced medium excitation within a static quark-gluon plasma to study how the jet energy and profiles are modified by the jet-medium interaction and in particular the jet-induced wake. Effects of the recoiled thermal partons and the jet-induced wake on the jet energy loss and profiles are studied in detail. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Two-dimensional low- pT dihadron correlations in azimuthal angle ϕ and pseudorapidity η in high-energy heavy-ion collisions are investigated within both the HIJING Monte Carlo model and an event-by-event (3+1)D ideal hydrodynamic model. Without final-state interaction and collective expansion, dihadron correlations from HIJING simulations have a typical structure from minijets that contains a near-side two-dimensional peak and an away-side ridge along the η direction. In contrast, event-by-event (3+1)D ideal hydrodynamic simulations with fluctuating initial conditions from the HIJING+AMPT model produce a strong dihadron correlation that has an away-side as well as a near-side ridge. Relics of intrinsic dihadron correlation from minijets in the initial conditions still remain as superimposed on the two ridges. By varying initial conditions from HIJING+AMPT, we study effects of minijets, nonvanishing initial flow, and longitudinal fluctuation on the final-state dihadron correlations. With a large rapidity gap, one can exclude near-side correlations from minijet relics and dihadron correlations can be described by the superposition of harmonic flows up to the sixth order. When long-range correlations with a large rapidity gap are subtracted from short-range correlations with a small rapidity gap, the remaining near-side short-range dihadron correlation is shown to result mainly from relics of minijets. Low-transverse-momentum hadron yields per trigger (pTtrig<4GeV/c,pTasso<2GeV/c) owing to this short-range correlation in central heavy-ion collisions are enhanced over that in peripheral heavy-ion collisions and p+p collisions, while widths in azimuthal angle remain the same, in qualitative agreement with experimental data. The enhancement owing to influence by the transverse expansion of the bulk medium is also shown to increase with centrality and colliding energy but to be insensitive to the kinetic freeze-out temperature.

Shear viscosity η and entropy density s of a hadronic resonance gas are calculated using the Chapman-Enskog and virial expansion methods using the K-matrix parametrization of hadronic cross sections which preserves the unitarity of the T matrix. In the π−K−N−η mixture considered, a total of 57 resonances up to 2 GeV were included. Comparisons are also made to results with other hadronic cross sections such as the Breit-Wigner (BW) and, where available, experimental phase shift parameterizations. Hadronic interactions forming resonances are shown to decrease the shear viscosity and increase the entropy density leading to a substantial reduction of η/s as the QCD phase transition temperature is approached.

We derive a relativistic chiral kinetic equation with manifest Lorentz covariance from Wigner functions of spin- 1/2 massless fermions in a constant background electromagnetic field. It contains vorticity terms and a four-dimensional Euclidean Berry monopole which gives an axial anomaly. By integrating out the zeroth component of the 4-momentum p, we reproduce the previous three-dimensional results derived from the Hamiltonian approach, together with the newly derived vorticity terms. The phase space continuity equation has an anomalous source term proportional to the product of electric and magnetic fields ( FσρF˜σρ∼EσBσ). This provides a unified interpretation of the chiral magnetic and vortical effects, chiral anomaly, Berry curvature, and the Berry monopole in the framework of Wigner functions.

Two puzzling features in the experimental study of jet quenching in central Pb+Pb collisions at the LHC are explained within a linearized Boltzmann transport model for jet propagation. A γ-tagged jet is found to lose about 15% of its initial energy while its azimuthal angle remains almost unchanged due to rapid cooling of the medium. The reconstructed jet fragmentation function is found to have some modest enhancement at both small and large fractional momenta as compared to that in the vacuum because of the increased contribution of leading particles to the reconstructed jet energy and induced gluon radiation and recoiled partons. A γ-tagged jet fragmentation function is proposed that is more sensitive to jet-medium interaction and the jet transport parameter in the medium. The effects of recoiled medium partons on the reconstructed jets are also discussed.

Hadron spectra and elliptic flow in relativistic heavy-ion collisions are studied in event-by-event (3+1)D ideal hydrodynamic simulations with fluctuating initial conditions given by the AMPT Monte Carlo model. Both the coherent soft gluon production from wounded nucleons and incoherent mini-jet production in semi-hard parton scatterings are considered. These partons take part in parton cascade and are assumed to be locally thermalized. They provide the fluctuating initial conditions for hydrodynamic simulations with a Gaussian smearing. Effects of both transverse and longitudinal fluctuations are studied. The initial fluctuations along rapidity direction lead to expanding hot spots in longitudinal direction, which will reduce elliptic flow and the yield of particles at high transverse momentum. The intrinsic correlation introduced in the fluctuating initial conditions is also found to influence the di-hadron correlation of the final hadrons.

Hadron spectra and elliptic flow in high-energy heavy-ion collisions are studied within a (3+1)D ideal hydrodynamic model with fluctuating initial conditions given by the AMPT Monte Carlo model. Results from event-by-event simulations are compared with experimental data at both Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider and Large Hadron Collider energies. Fluctuations in the initial energy density come from not only the number of coherent soft interactions of overlapping nucleons but also incoherent semi-hard parton scatterings in each binary nucleon collision. Mini-jets from semi-hard parton scatterings are assumed to be locally thermalized through a Gaussian smearing and give rise to nonvanishing initial local flow velocities. Fluctuations in the initial flow velocities lead to harder transverse momentum spectra of final hadrons due to nonvanishing initial radial flow velocities. Initial fluctuations in rapidity distributions lead to expanding hot spots in the longitudinal direction and are shown to cause a sizable reduction of final hadron elliptic flow at large transverse momenta.

In the framework of a multi-phase transport model, initial fluctuations in the transverse parton density lead to all orders of harmonic flows. Hadron-triggered azimuthal correlations include all contributions from harmonic flows, hot spots, and jet-medium excitations, which are isolated by using different initial conditions. We found that different physical components dominate different pseudorapidity ranges of dihadron correlations. Because γ-triggered azimuthal correlations can only be caused by jet-medium interactions, a comparative study of hadron- and γ -triggered azimuthal correlations can reveal more dynamics about jet-medium interactions.

Multiple parton scatterings in high-energy p+A collisions involve multiparton correlation inside the projectile and color coherence of multiple jets, which will lead to nuclear modification of final hadron spectra relative to that in p+p collisions. Such modifications of final hadron spectra in p+A collisions are studied within the hijing 2.1 model. Besides parton shadowing and transverse momentum broadening, which influence final hadron spectra at intermediate pT, modification of parton flavor composition due to multiple scattering and hadronization of many-parton jets system are shown to lead to suppression of final hadrons at large pT in p+A collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider.

We review the currently available formalisms for radiative energy loss of a high-momentum parton in a dense strongly interacting medium. The underlying theoretical framework of the four commonly used formalisms is discussed and the differences and commonalities between the formalisms are highlighted. A quantitative comparison of the single-gluon emission spectra as well as the energy-loss distributions is given for a model system consisting of a uniform medium with a fixed length of L=2 fm and L=5 fm (the “Brick”). Sizable quantitative differences are found. The largest differences can be attributed to specific approximations that are made in the calculation of the radiation spectrum.

A power expansion scheme is set up to determine the Wigner function that satisfies the quantum kinetic equation for spin- 1/2 charged fermions in a background electromagnetic field. Vector and axial-vector current induced by magnetic field and vorticity are obtained simultaneously from the Wigner function. The chiral magnetic and vortical effect and chiral anomaly are shown as natural consequences of the quantum kinetic equation. The axial-vector current induced by vorticity is argued to lead to a local polarization effect along the vorticity direction in heavy-ion collisions.

The recently published first measurement of charged hadron multiplicity density at mid-rapidity dN(ch)/d eta = 1584 +/- 4(stat.) +/- 76(sys.) in central Pb + Pb collisions root s = 2.76 TeV by the ALICE experiment at LHC is in good agreement with the HIJING2.0 prediction within the experimental errors and theoretical uncertainties. The new data point is used to carry out a combined fit together with the RHIC data to reduce the uncertainty in the gluon shadowing parameter s(g) which controls the overall magnitude of gluon shadowing at small fractional momentum x in HIJING2.0 model. Predictions on the centrality dependence of charged hadron multiplicity density at mid-rapidity with reduced uncertainties are given for Pb + Pb collisions root s = 2.76 and 5.5 TeV. The centrality dependence is surprisingly independent of the colliding energy similar to that in Au + Au collisions at RHIC for most of centralities starting at N-part = 50 (100) at root s = 2.76 (7) TeV. Within the AMPT Monte Carlo model, fluctuations in the initial transverse parton density are shown to lead to harmonic flows. The net back-to-back dihadron azimuthal correlation after subtraction of contributions from harmonic flows still has a double peak that is independent of the initial geometric triangularity and unique to the jet-induced Mach cone and expanding hot spots distorted by radial flow. The longitudinal structure of hot spots also leads to a nearside ridge in dihadron correlation with a large rapidity gap. By successively randomizing the azimuthal angle of the transverse momenta and positions of initial partons, one can isolate the effects of jet-induced medium excitation and expanding hot spots on the dihadron azimuthal correlation. The double peaks in the net dihadron and γ-hadron correlation are quantitatively different since the later is caused only by jet-induced Mach cone.

Quarks produced in the early stage of noncentral heavy-ion collisions could develop a global spin polarization along the opposite direction of the reaction plane due to the spin-orbital coupling via parton interaction in a medium that has finite longitudinal flow shear along the direction of the impact parameter. We study how such polarization evolves via multiple scattering in a viscous quark-gluon plasma with an initial laminar flow. The final polarization is found to be sensitive to the viscosity and the initial shear of local longitudinal flow.

The Heavy-Ion Jet Interaction Generator (hijing) Monte Carlo model is updated with the latest parton distributions functions and a new set of the parameters in the two-component minijet model that controls the total p+p cross section and the central pseudorapity density. We study hadron spectra and multiplicity distributions using the hijing 2.0 model and compare to recent experimental data from p+p collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) energies. We also give predictions of hadron production in p+p, p+Pb, and Pb+Pb collisions at the full LHC energy.
