西方传教士因传教之需要而将幻灯、电影等电化器材与知识技术引入中国,并经由书刊发布、集会演讲、学校应用等方式为中国人所认识和接收。在推动现代媒体技术与学校教育联结的过程中,促进我国传统教育手段的更新与现代化,使借助科技新成果而兴的电化教育开始在近代中国社会乃至学校中萌蘖、生发和成形,中国近代电化教育因是而兴。
