摘要:
NAC proteins that compose of one large family of plant specific transcription factors (TF) play the important roles in many biological processes (such as morphogenesis, development, senescence and stress signal transduction). In this study, a gene (designated as GhXND1) encoding a NAC transcription factor was identified in cotton. Sequence analysis indicated that GhXND1 gene contains two introns inserted in its open reading frame (ORF). GhXND1 protein is localized in the cell nucleus, and displays the transactivation activity. GhXND1 transcripts were mainly detected in cotyledons, petals, roots, hypocotyls and stems, but little or no signals of GhXND1 expression were found in the other tissues. Ectopic expression of GhXND1 in Arabidopsis resulted in a reduction in number of xylem vessel cells and cell wall thickness of interfascicular fibers in the transgenic plants, compared with those of wild type. And expression of some cell wall biosynthesis-related genes was down-regulated in the GhXND1 transgenic plants. Collectively, the data presented in this study suggested that GhXND1 may be involved in regulation of plant xylem development.

Ammonium is one of the major nutrients for plants, and a ubiquitous intermediate in plant metabolism, but it is also known to be toxic to many organisms, in particular to plants and oxygenic photosynthetic microorganisms. Although previous studies revealed a link between ammonium toxicity and photodamage in cyanobacteria under in vivo conditions, ammonium-induced photodamage of photosystem II (PSII) has not yet been investigated with isolated thylakoid membranes. We show here that ammonium directly accelerated photodamage of PSII in Synechocystis sp. strain PCC6803, rather than affecting the repair of photodamaged PSII. Using isolated thylakoid membranes, it could be demonstrated that ammonium-induced photodamage of PSII primarily occurred at the oxygen evolution complex, which has a known binding site for ammonium. Wild-type Synechocystis PCC6803 cells can tolerate relatively high concentrations of ammonium because of efficient PSII repair. Ammonium tolerance requires all three psbA genes since mutants of any of the three single psbA genes are more sensitive to ammonium than wild-type cells. Even the poorly expressed psbA1 gene, whose expression was studied in some detail, plays a detectable role in ammonium tolerance.

Plastics such as polyvinyl chlorides (PVC) are widely used in many indoor constructed environments; however, their unbound chemicals, such as di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalates (DEHP), can leach into the surrounding environment. This study focused on DEHP's effect on the central nervous system by determining the precise DEHP content in mice brain tissue after exposure to the chemical, to evaluate the specific exposure range. Primary neuronal-astrocyte co-culture systems were used as in vitro models for chemical hazard identification of DEHP. Oxidative stress was hypothesized as a probable mechanism involved, and therefore the total reactive oxygen species (ROS) concentration was determined as a biomarker of oxidative stress. In addition, NeuriteTracer, a neurite tracing plugin with ImageJ, was used to develop an assay for neurotoxicity to provide quantitative measurements of neurological parameters, such as neuronal number, neuron count and neurite length, all of which could indicate neurotoxic effects. The results showed that with 1 nmol/L DEHP exposure, there was a significant increase in ROS concentrations, indicating that the neuronal-astrocyte cultures were injured due to exposure to DEHP. In response, astrocyte proliferation (gliosis) was initiated, serving as a mechanism to maintain a homeostatic environment for neurons and protect neurons from toxic chemicals. There is a need to assess the cumulative effects of DEHP in animals to evaluate the possible uptake and effects on the human neuronal system from exposure to DEHP in the indoor environment.

We theoretically propose a scheme for the quadrature squeezing of the cavity field via dissipative processes. The effects of the electron-phonon interaction (EPI) on the squeezing are investigated, where the cavity is off-resonantly coupled with a coherently driven quantum dot (QD) which is allowed to interact with an acoustic-phonon reservoir. Under certain conditions, the participation of the phonon induced by both the EPI and the off-resonant coupling of the cavity with the QD enables some dissipative processes to occur resonantly in the dressed-state basis of the QD. The cavity-mode photons emitted or absorbed during the phonon-mediated dissipative processes are correlated, thus leading to the squeezing of the cavity field. A squeezed vacuum reservoir for the cavity field is built up due to the EPI plus the off-resonant coupling between the cavity and the QD. The numerical results obtained with an effective polaron master equation derived using second-order perturbation theory indicate that, in low temperature limit, the degree of squeezing is maximal but the increasing temperature of the phonon reservoir could hinder the squeezing and degrade the degree of the squeezing of the cavity field. In addition, the presence of the photonic crystal could enhance the quadrature squeezing of the cavity field.

The authors first review the recently proposed Das's biometric-based remote user authentication scheme, and then show that Das's scheme is still insecure against some attacks and has some problems in password change phase. In order to overcome the design flaws in Das's scheme, an improvement of the scheme is further proposed. Cryptanalysis shows that our scheme is more efficient and secure against most of attacks; moreover, our scheme can provide strong mutual authentication by using verifying biometric, password as well as random nonces generated by the user and server.

Two 5-pyrimidinyl-1, 2, 4-oxadiazoles were synthesized through two different routes and their structures were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, NMR and MS. Compound 3, 5-(2-chloro-4-methyl-6-phenylpyrimidin-5-yl)-3-phenyl-1, 2, 4-oxadiazole, crystallizes in orthorhombic, space group Pbca with a = 19.1575(11), b = 8.2115(5), c = 21.2035(12) Å, V = 3335.6(3) Å3 and Z = 4. Compound 6, 5-(2, 6-dichloropyrimidin-4-yl)-3-phenyl-1, 2, 4-oxadiazole, crystallizes in monoclinic space group Pn with a = 8.4275(13), b = 5.4088(8), c = 13.493(2) Å, β = 99.768(3)°, V = 4658.6(6) Å3 and Z = 8. Preliminary bioassay indicated that the two title compounds had good herbicidal activities.

A domino reaction that involves the formation of C=S and C-N bonds in one process via sp(3) C-H functionalization strategy has been developed. This reaction affords an efficient and direct method for the synthesis of alpha-ketothioamides from aryl methyl ketones, amines, and sodium hydrosulfide under the promotion of iodine. 摘要:
A novel method for the construction of diheteroaryl thioethers from aromatic methyl ketones and thiourea is described. Iodine is the unique catalyst in this protocol. The transformation is free of foul-smell thiols and transition metal. In addition, this method could synthesize two thiazole rings and a sulfur bridge in one pot. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. Cotton aphid (Aphis gossypii Glover) is one of the most important economic pests in the world. Long-term unreasonable usage of insecticides has made cotton aphid developing insecticide-resistance, which frequently leads to serious occurrences of cotton aphid in many regions. It is regarded effective and environmentally friendly to control aphids through utilizing plant resistance. In this study, a translationally controlled tumor protein gene, GhTCTP1, was isolated in cotton. It belongs to TCTP subfamily and encodes a protein of 168 amino acids. GhTCTP1 expression was suppressed in cotton plants under cotton aphid attack, but its expression level was up-regulated in the wounded cotton leaves. The choice test and no-choice test demonstrated that overexpression of GhTCTP1 in Arabidopsis enhanced plant resistance to green peach aphid (Myzus persicae). Quantitative RT-PCR analysis revealed that the defense response genes related to salicylic acid signaling pathway were activated in the GhTCTP1 overexpressing transgenic plants. Content of total amino acids was decreased, and phenylalanine ammonialyase activity was altered in leaves of the transgenic Arabidopsis plants, compared with those in wild type. Furthermore, the callose amount in transgenic Arabidopsis leaves was more than that of wild type. These data suggested that GhTCTP1 might be involved in regulation of plant tolerance to aphids, and can be potentially applied in improving aphid-resistance of crops by genetic manipulation.

The first purpose of this paper is to provide further illustrations, from both theoretical and numerical perspectives, for the nonconvergence of h-refinement in hp-approximation by the prolate spheroidal wave functions (PSWFs), a surprising convergence property that was first discovered by Boyd et al. (2013) [3]. The second purpose is to offer a new basis that leads to prolate-collocation systems with condition numbers independent of (c, N), the intrinsic bandwidth parameter and the number of collocation points. We highlight that the collocation scheme together with a very practical rule for pairing up (c, N) significantly outperforms the Legendre polynomial-based method (and likewise other Jacobi polynomial-based methods) in approximating highly oscillatory bandlimited functions. Two classes of 3rd order correlation immune symmetric Boolean functions have been constructed respectively in [1] and [2], in which some interesting phenomena of the algebraic degree have been observed as well. However, a good explanation has not been given. In this paper, we obtain the formulas for the degree of these functions, which can well explain the behavior of their degree.

This paper is concerned with constructing nodal radial solutions for generalized quasilinear Schrodinger equations in R-N which arise from plasma physics, fluid mechanics, as well as high-power ultashort laser in matter. For any given integer k >= 0, by using a change of variables and minimization argument, we obtain a sign-changing minimizer with k nodes of a minimization problem. (c) 2014 AIP Publishing LLC.
