Early ecological security warning of cultivated lands using RF-MLP integration model: A case study on China's main grain-producing areas

The evaluation and early warning of the ecological security of cultivated land are crucial to food security and social stability in the post-epidemic era. In this study, we construct a cultivated ecological security assessment index system based on the pressure-state-response (PSR) model in the main grain-producing areas of China. The entropy method and the multi-factor comprehensive weighting method are used to evaluate the ecological security of the cultivated land in the study area from 2007 to 2018. We propose an integrated model that combines random forest (RF) and multilayer perceptron (MLP), i.e., RF-MLP, to estimate ecological security levels of cultivated lands in the study area from 2019 to 2028. We also present specific policy suggestions to improve the ecological status of cultivated lands. We found that: (1) the ecological security index (E index) of cultivated land showed an overall upward trend from 0.6379 in 2006 to 0.7754 in 2018, despite the fact that this increasing pattern was not considerably strong. The warning situation was changed from medium warning to light warning. The warning levels present a notable spatial imbalance, with higher warning levels occurring in the northern provinces. (2) From 2019 to 2028, although the E index of cultivated land in the main grain-producing areas is expected to be further improved, its values are between 0.7 and 0.8, with most provinces lying in the light warning grades. During the forecasting period, the spatial pattern of the warning situations is stable. In some regions, e.g., North and Northeast China, the cultivated land ecology is expected to be developed towards a positive direction. Although the ecological security of cultivated land in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River region is generally satisfactory, the E index presents a declining trend, thus demanding further attention. The results from this study are expected to benefit decision-makers in designing mitigating strategies for better ecological security management and maintenance of cultivated lands in China's main grain-producing areas. © 2022 The Author(s)

National Key Ecological Functions Areas (NKEFAs) in China perform critical ecological functions and play a key role in ensuring the ecological safety of a large region or the whole country. Conservation planning in NKEFAs needs to scientifically locate conservation areas and development sites to support the “globally conserved, locally developed” strategy. However, popular conservation planning approaches often underestimate the impacts of natural and anthropogenic stressors and thus fail to handle the conflicts between conservation and development goals. This article proposes a conservation planning framework (CP-NKEFA) to overcome the limitations of popular conservation planning approaches and fulfill the conservation planning requirements of China’s NKEFAs. Conservation planning is converted to an ecological risk assessment problem to integrate natural and anthropogenic stressors analysis with ecosystem service (ES) evaluation. The framework clarifies stressor types and quantifies stressor risks and ES importance to set conservation, development, and buffer zones. As a case study, the framework was implemented in Changyang County, China, an NKEFA for water and soil retention in the Three Gorges Reservoir Region. The framework is more useful than typical ecological redline zoning for instructing conservation and development spatial arrangement with a multi-category zoning scheme. The zoning results protect the areas vulnerable to natural and anthropogenic stressors or significant for ES provisions. Furthermore, the buffer zone prevents direct impacts of human activities on conservation areas and permits trade-offs between conservation and development goals. Except for NKEFAs, the framework also applies to conservation planning in other areas where conservation and development goals must be handled. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The market-oriented allocation reform of urban land resources has become an important component of economic system reform in China, while its objective impact on land use efficiency still remains uncertain and needs to be revealed somehow. Based on the panel data of 285 cities in China from 2003 to 2015, this study uses the DEA method to measure the urban land use efficiency firstly, and then the spatial Durbin model is adopted to examine the spatial effects of land transfer marketization on urban land use efficiency in China. The results show that land transfer marketization can significantly improve urban land use efficiency of the local region at 0.16% on the one hand, while on the other hand it has an inhibitory effect on urban land use efficiency of the spatial related regions at a relatively higher level of 0.17%. Besides, there exists club convergence of the urban land use efficiency of sample cities in China. As for other variables affecting the urban land use efficiency spatially, economic development level, industrial structure and population scale have a significantly promoting effect at the level of 0.1263, 0.1667 and 0.1735 respectively, while infrastructure level and opening degree may have an inhibitory effect because of their irreconcilable stages, though most of them failed the significance test. On the basis of these theoretical and empirical analyses, some policy recommendations such as adhering to the market-oriented land transfer policy, strengthening the communication and coordination mechanism between regions are provided to policymakers in order to make the most use of land resources. © 2021

Rapid urban sprawl in China has caused serious eco-environmental changes, and thus attracted significant attention of the international academic circles. However, the mechanism of influence of urban sprawl on eco-environmental quality has not been addressed adequately. The main objective of this study was to fill this gap by theoretically and empirically studying how urban sprawl influences eco-environmental quality, based on the Spatial Durbin model and on a panel data covering 30 provinces of mainland China during the period 2003–2018. The results show that China's urban sprawl has significantly decreased the eco-environmental quality under both geographical and economic weight matrices. Moreover, the spillover effect played an essential role in investigating the influence of urban sprawl on eco-environmental quality. From the perspective of regional differences, the direct accumulation effect and the spatial spillover effect involved in the impact of urban sprawl on eco-environmental quality varied across the central, western, and northeast regions. The results of decomposition of urban sprawl into its component parts indicate that population sprawl, socio-economic sprawl, transportation sprawl, and land use sprawl can explain the change of eco-environmental quality in China to varying degrees. During the study period, land use sprawl exhibited the greatest effect on eco-environmental quality, followed by socio-economic sprawl, population sprawl, and transportation sprawl. The government should actively coordinate the development of different types of urban sprawl, thus increasing eco-environmental quality across different regions. © 2021 The Authors

Farmland resources are the most basic material for grain production. Therefore, the impact of farmland use transition (FUT) on grain production is receiving increasing attention from scholars. However, only a few studies have explored the spatial spillover effects of FUT on grain production and investigate the impact difference under topographical constraints. To fill this gap, this study uses county-level panel data of farmland use and grain production in Hubei Province from 2005 to 2017 and constructs a spatial econometric model to investigate the spatial spillover effects of FUT on grain production at the macro level and different topographical areas. The conclusions are as follows. (1) In the entire Hubei Province, there is a positive spatial spillover effect on grain production in the counties, and the spatial spillover effect is mainly driven by transition of the farmland quantity, machinery input, and farmland irrigation infrastructure input. (2) The topographical constraints lead to the heterogeneity of the spatial spillover effects of FUT on grain production. In plain areas, the spatial spillover effects of grain production mainly depend on transition of farmland quantity, machinery, fertilizers, and farmland irrigation infrastructure input. In hilly-mountainous areas, labor input is the main factor that affects grain production. (3) This study concludes that promoting the coordinated development of regional farmland use and grain production is one of the effective ways to achieve food security. Therefore, policy makers should formulate agricultural support policies based on the trends of FUT in different topographical areas. © 2021 The Author(s)

摘要:
The evaluation of the effects of cultivated land protection policies (CLPP) is an important issue in China's food security and land policy regulation. This article first analyzes the historical evolution of CLPP in China and divides it into five stages. Based on this, this paper proposes a CLPP implementation effect evaluation framework based on the perspective of farmers’ perception. Taking Xingning City, Guangdong Province as the research area, the AHP-entropy method and cloud model are used to evaluate the regional CLPP implementation effect. Results show that the comprehensive effect of CLPP is between 'middle' and 'good,' and specifically close to the 'good' level. After the implementation of CLPP, its ecological management and protection, agricultural production enthusiasm, and farmers’ satisfaction levels are generally at a medium or low level, and only the amount of cultivated land protection is at a medium to high level. Therefore, the formulation of CLPP in the future needs to start from the perspective of improving the comprehensive interests of farmers and enhance the focalization of policies. The cloud model realizes the uncertainty mapping of each evaluation index, takes into account the randomness and ambiguity of evaluation index quantification and grade division, and makes the evaluation result objective. This research method can serve as a reference for relevant land use policy evaluation. © 2021 The Authors

Although government applications (Apps) have developed rapidly in recent years, few studies have paid attention to the consequences of government App use on citizen compliance. In response to this gap, this study divides citizens' government App use into informational use, service use and participatory use, and explores the impact of such use on citizen compliance, and the mediating role of trust in government, government transparency and government reputation on that relationship, by conducting a study of citizens in Guangzhou, Wuhan and Chengdu. The findings confirm that the service use and participatory use of government Apps positively predict trust in government and government reputation to varying degrees, while any one type of government App use cannot directly influence citizen compliance. This study also reveals the mediating mechanism of different perceptions of government on different types of government App use and citizen compliance, confirms the single mediation pathway to be the most effective pathway, and trust in government to be the most important mediator in the mediating process. Our findings further demonstrate that deep m-government usage behaviors under the condition of more sophisticated digital services and higher levels of government-citizen interactions can not only play a more effective role in promoting trust in government and government reputation, but also exert a potential impact on citizen compliance. © 2020 Elsevier Ltd

In recent years, the rise and development of massive open online courses (MOOCs) have promoted the boom of online education and also promoted the research on learning analysis and mining based on big data of education. However, while offering a large number of high quality courses, there is also a phenomenon that the overall learning effect is not ideal. How to make effective use of MOOCs for teaching activities poses urgent practical requirements for educators and researchers. MOOCs store massive learners’ learning behavior data, and mining these data is of great significance to learners’ learning effects. Due to the deviation caused by the correlation between many behavior indexes, the paper analyze the nine measurable performance indexes by principal component analysis (PCA), and get three principal components factors in order to reduce the computational dimension and increase the comprehensibility, and then obtain a model of learning effect prediction, namely the PCA prediction model (PCA_PM). Logistic regression algorithm has a good fitting effect on behavioral indexes. Therefore, the paper use the logistic regression method to construct another model of learning effect prediction, namely the principal component logistic regression prediction model (PCL_PM), and predictive effects of two models were compared and analyzed. The results show that it is an effective way to help learners to improve the passing rate of the course by establishing the predictive models. The prediction accuracy of both PCA_PM and PCL_PM is high, but overall, the prediction effect of PCA_PM is better. © 2018, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.

Urban sprawl and its eco-environmental impacts are crucial components of global environmental change research, and a core issue for sustainable development. In this study we used a Pressure-State-Response (PSR) system to develop a theoretical framework, in which the total eco-environmental effects of urban sprawl (EEUS) were divided into pressure, state, and response. A corresponding index system was then constructed to evaluate the different kinds of EEUS in China's 30 provinces from 2003 to 2015, and temporal and spatial characteristics are explored through spatial autocorrelation analysis. We found that 1) pressure, state and response EEUS not only had differences but also strong connections. These three kinds of eco-environmental effects also had different causal mechanisms and their contributions to the total EEUS were different. 2) The pressure, state and response, as well as the total EEUS, increased from 2003 to 2015. However, there were clear disparities in EEUS across the eastern, central, western and northeast regions. EEUS results for the eastern and northeast regions were higher than in the central and western regions. 3) There was significant spatial dependence and heterogeneity in EEUS. Overall, the spatial difference in EEUS was mainly caused by “HH” and “LL” cluster types. These results have significant implications for theoretical guidance and policy efforts. We conclude that a better eco-environment in the process of urban sprawl can be achieved by improving the quality of urban development and enhancing government management. © 2019

In the context of rapid urbanization, the rational spatial distribution of infrastructures, such as road network and public facilities is of great importance for the spatial optimization of infrastructure construction and sustainable regional development. In this study, we explored the spatial spillover influence of infrastructure network on urbanization in road network-based and POI-based hypotheses through spatial modeling in Wuhan urban agglomeration in 2005 and 2015. The global integration values of the road axial lines and Points of Interest (POI) density were used to generate spatial weight matrices by the gravity model to formulate the two hypotheses. The results revealed that local economic factors and the spatial influence of infrastructure both contribute to the changes in urbanization with varying powers in different hypotheses and years. In general, spatial spillover effects from neighbors in the form of road network and point-based facilities have weakened in recent years. However, the comparative magnitude has changed from road network dominated to similar functioning between road network and POI based facilities. It is concluded that the rational utilization of the embedded spatial spillover effect helps to formulate strategies for sustainable urbanization in improving resource use efficiency, achieving balanced development and promoting an integrated urban–rural development.<br/> ©2019

摘要:
Noise pollution poses negative impacts on public health particularly for urban dwellers as the land use of cities is prone to producing more road traffic and various human activities. Among the existing literature, the pathways linking built environment characteristics and noise level are not sufficiently addressed owing to a variety of complex factors affecting noise in urban areas. This study aims to examine the relationships of urban built environment and noise, using Pearson correlations and multiple linear regressions. Built environmental factors considered for this study consist of land cover, land use, and urban form. Results reveal a significant association between three aspects of urban built environment and noise level. In terms of land cover, forest alleviates noise effectively, while the effect of grassland on noise is far less impactful than forest. High-density and high-rise building areas (HHBA) are two contributors to noise pollution. The spatial layout of residential buildings is more effective in reducing noise level, as compared to the size of the residential lands. In terms of land use, the area proportion of business, open space with hard pavement, industrial, and residential land uses positively influence noise level. In terms of urban form, controlling building density is a key measure in noise reduction. Buildings with larger site coverage and complex shapes are effective in noise reduction. Findings from this study would be very helpful to formulate and implement effective measures for noise pollution mitigation, and ensure sustainable development of urban environment.

摘要:
In this study, an inexact multi-objective optimization model integrated with ecosystem service value was developed for supporting sustainable land-use management in Took Mu Qinqi in the northeast of Inner Mongolia Province, China. It was an attempt to incorporate ecosystem service evaluation model within a general modeling framework in typical semi-arid region. The ecosystem service value was modified according to the development of eco-environment and social economy in Took Mu Qinqi based on the study of land ecosystem service value in China. The modified ecosystem service value provided input parameters for the optimization model. The results showed that the ecosystem service value of grassland was the highest among the six land-use categories, with about 97% and 83% of the total value for East and West Took Mu Qinqi, respectively. It indicated that grassland played an important role in ecosystem service. The results also showed that the total economic benefit produced by the optimal land use pattern increased by [11.5, 12.6], [5.66, 6.36] ×10<sup>12</sup>RMB ¥compared with the current land-use pattern for East, West Took Mu Qinqi, respectively. The total ecosystem service value produced by the optimal land-use pattern also increased by [5.9, 9.1], [3.4, 4.5] ×10<sup>12</sup>RMB ¥compared with that produced by the current land-use pattern for East, West Took Mu Qinqi, respectively. It indicated that the optimal land-use pattern generated by the multi-objective model was better than the current land-use pattern either from the point of economic benefit or from the point of ecological benefit. The optimization model of land-use structure based on ecosystem service value could satisfy the social, economical, and environmental development, which provided a new way to solve the key technical problem in land-use planning in typical semi-arid region.<br/> ©2018 Elsevier Ltd

为了探索城市住宅用途基准地价的空间形态复杂性与多维度空间可视化表达,采集武汉市中心城区的住宅用途基准地价数据,利用数字高程模型与基于地理信息系统(geographic information system,GIS)的探索性空间分析,实现以基准地价为代理变量来更好地理解城市空间特征与空间结构。结果表明:反距离加权法更适合基准地价“层级梯田状”空间形态的表达;地理中心与“到中心的距离”作为刻画空间的经典变量仍具有不可替代的作用;各侧视角的空间形态与“价格天际线”、从内到外沿环线土地价格分布变化、各典型方向价格拟合曲线反映的梯度都呈现出明显的“中心-边缘”各圈层逐渐下降的趋势,以及城市各扇区间的空间异质性;坡度与坡向特征也进一步印证了土地基准地价高层模型“梯田型”与“环状放射型”的空间形态。

This study found a positive correlation between dual commitment and positive industrial relations climate while a negative correlation between dual commitment and negative industrial relations climate according to a questionnaire survey with 610 samples in several Wuhan's private enterprises. With a further research by using the Logistic regression model, the affective commitment, normative commitment in organization commitment as well as the member's affection and member's benefits have a remarkable positive impact on positive industrial relations climate, while economic commitment and choice commitment in organization commitment as well as member's affection and member's benefits have a remarkable negative impact on negative industrial relations climate. This essay is conducive to both a correct understanding of unions for the managers of private enterprises and the creation of a harmonious industrial relations climate for the unions. ©2013 IEEE.
