Abstract 2,4-Bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,3,2,4-dithiadiphosphetane-2,4-disulfide (Lawesson's Reagent, LR), was treated with N,N′-diaryl glycinamides (1) in anhydrous toluene as a solvent at 100°C to form 1,3-diaryl-1,3,2-ciazaphospholidin-4-thione-2-sulfides (2) Compatible analytical and spectroscopic data were obtained for all the new compounds. A mechanism was proposed to explain the formation of compound 2f. The biological activity of the title products was also tested and some of them showed good herbicidal activity.

The following reactions 2Zn(Ac)(2) . 2H(2)O (s) + H5IO6 (s) --> Zn2HIO6 . 1.25H(2)O (s) + 4HAc (1) + 2.75H(2)O (1) 2Cd(Ac)(2) . 2H(2)O (s) + HsIO(6) (s) --> Cd2HIO6 . 1.25H(2)O (s) + 4HAc (1) + 1.25H(2)O (1) 2Cu(Ac)(2) . H2O (s) + H5IO6 (s) --> Cu2HIO6 2H(2)O (s) + 4HAc (1) have been studied. The molar dissolution enthalpies of the reactants and products in a certain solvent (3 M l(-1) HNO3) of this three reaction have been measured using an isoperibol calorimeter at 298 K. From these values, combined with auxiliary values, the standard molar formation enthalpies of Zn2HIO6.1.25H(2)O (s), (298.2K), Cd2HIO6.1.25 H2O (s), (298.2K) and Cu2HIO6.2H(2)O (s), (298.2 K) have been determined to be Delta(f)H(m)(theta), (Zn2HIO6.1.25 H2O (s), 298.2 K) = -1342.11 kJ mol(-1) Delta(f)H(m)(theta) (Cd2HIO6.1.25H(2)O (s), 298.2 K) = -1405.49 kJ mol(-1) and Delta(f)H(m)(theta) (Cu(2)HIO(6)2H(2)O (s), 298.2 K) = -1226.08 kJ mol(-1) (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. The regioselective addition reaction of 5-amino-1,2,4-triazoles and its pyrazole analogues 1 with arylsulfonyl isocyanates were described. Experimental results showed that the addition reaction of 1 with arylsulfonyl isocyanates at room temperature took placed at the 5-position amino group and adducts 4 were obtained, however, the reaction proceeded at 1-N at the presence of sodium hydride to give products 5, which suggested that the amino nitrogen at C-5 is more nuclophilic than 1-N in this reaction system. In addition, molecular mechanic calculations were applied to explain the regioselectivity.

Novel sulfonylurea derivatives containing five-membered heterocycle 3a - l and 4a - d were synthesized in good yields by the regioselective addition of aryl sulfonylisocyanates 1 to 5-amino-3-benzyl (aryl) thio-1, 2, 4-triazoles and its pyrazole analogues 2. The structures of all these compounds were evaluated by elemental analyses and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The preliminary biological tests showed that the products displayed herbicidal activity against rape to some extent.

Abstract In search of novel herbicides with high activity, a series of 2‐arylthio‐1,4,2,‐triazolo[1,5‐a]pyrimidines (3) were synthesized by cyclization of 5‐amino‐3‐arylthio‐1,2,4‐triazoles with 1, 3‐diketones or by the nucleophilic substitution of substituted thiophenols with 2‐methylsulfonyl‐l,2,4‐triazolo [1,5‐a]‐pyrimidine. The structures of all compounds prepared were confirmed by 1H NMR and MS spectroscopy along with elemental analyses. Preliminary bioassays indicated that some of the compounds 3 had good herbicidal activity against rape. In addition, the regioselectivity in the reaction of 5‐amino‐3‐substituted arylthio‐l,2,4‐triazoles with benzoylacetone was studied.

Abstract A number of 2-ethoxycarbonyl phenylseleno aminomethylene phosphonates have been synthesized by the Mannich-type reaction of 1,2-benzisoselenazol-3(2H)-one, formaldehyde and dialkylphosphite with anhydrous ethanol as the solvent. The structures are supported by elemental analysis, 1H, 31PNMR, Mass and IR spectra. It was found that ethanol participates in the reaction and leads to the opening of 1,2-benzisoselenazol-3(2H)-one to form title compounds.
