摘要:
The ALICE calorimeters PHOS and EMCal are based on Avalanche Photo-Diode (APD) photosensors with Charge Sensitive Preamplifiers (CSP) for readout of the scintillating elements. The amplified signals are read out via 32-channel shaper/digitizer front-end electronics (FEE) with 14-bit effective dynamic range. The electronics is based on second order shapers with dual gain for each channel, getting digitized by ALTRO chips. Each APD channel is equipped with an individual 10-bit APD gain adjustment and 2×2 channel clusters generate a 100 ns shaped analog sums output (Fast OR) for the associated Trigger Region Units (TRU). The Fast OR signals are generated by first order shapers with a dynamic range of 12-bit given by the ADC in the TRU cards. Board controller firmware in the FPGA provides local monitoring and configuration of all parameters via the ALICE DCS system. The signal to noise ratio for MIP at 215 MeV is ∼7 per channel with a noise level of 30 MeV at room temperature for a dynamic range of 80 GeV for PHOS, and the fast-OR RMS noise level is about 75 MeV for a dynamic range of 250 GeV for EMCal.

通过计算给出了在LHC能区非对心核-核碰撞中由椭圆流ν2表示的高横动量直接光子的方位角不对称性。该高横动量光子是由喷注与热密介质相互作用而辐射出来的。光子椭圆流与强子椭圆流ν2相差π/2的相位,是直接光子椭圆流中负值的来源。同时,计算表明LHC能区直接光子ν2随粒子横动量pT的变化趋势与RHIC上的实验结果一致,但LHC能区较RHIC能区有更低的直接光子流ν2值,且ν2值由负到正对应的转换pT值更高。这表明在LHC能区喷注淬火效应更为明显,表面发射的直接光子对光子椭圆流的贡献份额增强。

摘要:
The photon spectrometer (PHOS) in the ALICE experiment at LHC is dedicated to measuring photons, π0's and η's in a broad p<inf>T</inf> range from about 100 MeV/c to 100 GeV/c, providing the best possible energy and position resolution in order to narrow the π0 and ηmass peaks and thus to increase the signal to background ratio. The front-end electronics (FEE) of the PHOS is thus required to cover a large dynamic range, to have a timing resolution better than ∼2ns in order to discriminate against 12 GeV/c (anti-)neutrons, and to provide high p<inf>T</inf> trigger to select rare high p<inf>T</inf> events. In addition, to equalize the gains of individual detector channels, it is desired that the PHOS FEE can regulate the bias voltage of APD. In this paper, we will present the performance and status of the 32-channel low noise front-end electronics for the PHOS with a dynamic range of 14 bits. Measurements with LED pulse at laboratory and results from beam test with the first PHOS module at T10 of the CERN PS show that its performance fulfills the PHOS requirements. ©2010 Elsevier B.V. 摘要:
We present the two electromagnetic calorimeters of the ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) experiment at LHC (Large Hadron Collider). One is the high-resolution PHOton Spectrometer (PHOS) made of lead tungsten crystals and the other is the ElectroMagnetic Calorimeter (EMCal), a Lead-Scintillator sampling calorimeter. They are dedicated to the measurement and identification of direct photons, light neutral mesons such as π0, η and ω (782), and jets emitted in proton-proton and heavy-ion collisions at the LHC energies. The PHOS is capable of precisely detecting photons with momentum range between 0.1 GeV/c and 100 GeV/c and the EMCal can extend the prompt photon and light neutral meson momentum measurement beyond 200 GeV/c. The objective of the study is to explore the physics of strongly interacting QCD matter under extreme conditions of energy density. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

摘要:
We study the pseudo-rapidity distribution of hadron multiplicities of high energy Pb+Pb collisions by using color glass condensate dynamics at LHC/ALICE in the fixed coupling case. It is found that after including the pomeron loop effects the charged hadron multiplicities at central rapidity are about 1500 for central Pb+Pb collisions, which are significantly smaller than the saturation based calculations, ∼ 1700 ÷ 2500 and compatible with that based on a study of multiplicities in the fragmentation region. © 2010 Chinese Physical Society and IOP Publishing Ltd.

ALICE, A Large Ion Collider Experiment, is dedicated to study the QCD matter at extreme high temperature and density to understand the Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) and phase transition. High-transversemomentum photons and neutral mesons from the initial hard scattering of partons can be measured with ALICE calorimeters, PHOS (PHOton Spectrometer) and EMCAL (ElectroMagnetic CALorimeter). Combing the additional central tracking detectors, the γy-jet and π°-jet measurements thus can be accessed. These measurements offer us a sensitive tomography probe of the hot-dense medium generated in the heavy ion collisions. In this paper, high pT and photon physics is discussed and the ALICE calorimeters capabilities of high-transverse- momentum neutral mesons and γ-jet measurements are presented. © 2010 Chinese Physical Society and the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Modern Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and IOP Publishing Ltd.

摘要:
γ+Jet events provide a, tomographic measurement of the medium formed in heavy ion collisions at LHC energies. Tagging events with a well identified high PT direct photon and measuring the correlation distribution of hadrons emitted oppositely to the photon in ALICE, allows us to determine, with a good approximation, both the jet fragmentation function and the back-to-back azimuthal alignment of the direct photon and the jet. Comparing these two observables measured in pp collisions with the ones measured in AA collisions will reveal the modifications of the jet structure induced by the medium formed in AA collisions and consequently will infer the medium properties. © 2010 Chinese Physical Society and the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Modern Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and IOP Publishing Ltd.

本项目从实验上研究了LHC能区(7和14TeV)质子-质子(p-p)和(2.76和5.5 TeV)铅-铅(Pb-Pb)碰撞中的光子和中性介子产生,重味衰变轻子谱和重味衰变强子谱的产生以探测器响应,研究了光子、中性粒子和带电粒子的鉴别和重建方法及重建效率。建立了测量光子-强子和强子-强子关联,部分子内禀横动量k_T和部分子碎裂函数及其修正的分析方法;开展了夸克物质层析研究。建立了muon和强子道测量粲、底强子截面、muon谱压低和muon椭圆流分析方法。分析了ALICE首批 p-p和Pb-Pb实验数据,研究并给出了光子-强子和强子-强子关联以及部分子碎裂函数x_E分布的初步结果,提取了部分子内禀横动量k_T。分析并给出了muon产物横动量分布和粲、底强子截面,观测到重味-muon谱明显压低,计算了压低因子RCP和RAA。开展了muon产物椭圆流的初步分析。研究了ALICE寻迹系统内的径迹重建参量DCS的分辨率。在D0谱测量中做出了有贡献。合作建造ALICE光子谱仪及其读出电子学系统以及固件系统,建议建造双喷注量能器建议被采纳并开始建造双喷注量能器的一个超级模块。

摘要:
The analytic expression of proton in deep inelastic scattering is studied by using the color glass condensate model and the dipole picture. We get a better description of the HERA DIS data than the GBW model which was inspired by the Glauber model. We find that our model satisfies the unitarity limit and Proissart Bound which refers to an energy dependence of the total cross-section rising no more rapidly than ln2s. © 2009 Chinese Physical Society and the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Modern Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and IOP Publishing Ltd.

Based on Conesa del Valle et al (2008 Phys. Lett. B 663 202), we present the results for the nuclear modification factors RAA and R CP of the high transverse momentum (5 < pt < 60 GeV/c) distribution of muons in Pb-Pb collisions at LHC energies, in which two pseudo-rapidity ranges covered by the LHC experiments, |η| < 2.5 and 2.5 < η < 4, are investigated. Heavy-quark energy loss is taken into account by mass-dependent BDMPS quenching weights. Muons from semi-leptonic decays of heavy quarks (c and b) and from leptonic decays of weak gauge bosons (W and Z) are the main contributions to the muon pt distribution above a few GeV/c. The muons from W and Z, that dominates the high p t, can be used as a medium-blind reference to observe the medium-induced suppression of beauty quarks. © 2009 IOP Publishing Ltd.

摘要:
因为最新研发的250块ALICE/PHOS前端电子学FEE系统板的部分器件在无铅焊接中被部分或完全损坏.为了不影响FEE系统性能,准确定位FFE系统板上与FPGA相关的故障,在对ACEX系列FPGA的配置机制进行深入研究的基础上找到了一种定位FEE系统板故障点的方法.文章着重研究了多器件的JTAG配置、基于EPC系列配置器件的PS配置和FPGA的自动重配置等问题.FEE系统板的大量测试和维修结果证明,该定位方法能准确、快速地定位FEE系统板上与FPGA器件相关的故障点.

摘要:
为了减小光子谱仪PHOS中信号通道增益的离散性,需要调整光电倍增管APD的偏压来补偿系统中的以下几个方面:APD增益的宽离散性、前置放大器增益的离散性和钨酸铅晶体光产额的离散性等。因此,设计了基于FPGA的APD偏压控制电路。该控制电路通过FPGA对10-bit DAC进行控制,使输出高压的调节范围达到210V~400V,调节精度达到0.2V/bit。文中具体介绍了APD偏压控制电路的设计思路,给出了测试结果,并对测试结果进行了深入的分析。

摘要:
The possibility to study the fragmentation function of jets with energies below 50 GeV, which cannot be reconstructed in the heavy-ion environment, is explored. We propose to measure the imbalance distribution between prompt photon and charged hadrons with the ALICE experiment at LHC. In the present article, the case of proton-proton collisions at √s = 14 TeV is examined with Monte-Carlo simulations. Performances for prompt photon identification and rejection of the π 0 decay photons are presented. We find that the measurement in proton-proton is meaningful with respect to statistical and systematic errors for photon energies larger than 20 GeV. © 2008 Springer-Verlag / Società Italiana di Fisica.

大型强子对撞机(LHC)上的大型离子对撞机实验(ALICE)将致力于TeV能区重离子碰撞,探测夸克退禁闭的新物质形态——夸克-胶子等离子体(QGP),探索宇宙诞生之初的物态性质。本文介绍其上的新一代电磁谱仪ALICE光子探测器(PHOS),它将用于铅-铅碰撞实验中测量直接光子和衰变光子产物,诊断夸克物质的电磁信号。束流测试结果显示,ALICE光子谱仪——PHOS将能够高效探测0.5~100GeV/c的光子。

摘要:
We present a study for matching charged tracks reconstructed from the ALICE tracking detectors with the clusters measured in the photon spectrometer. Matching efficiency and contaminations due to wrong matches have been deduced for charged pions and muons. For electrons, the effect of the material in front of PHOS is discussed.

The efficiency for the detection and identification of photons with the ALICE PHOton Spectrometer PHOS has been studied with the Monte-Carlo generated data. In particular, the influence on the efficiency of the PHOS-module edge-effect and of the material in front of PHOS have been examined.

摘要:
Within the framework of a factorization model, we study the behaviour of nuclear modification factor in Au-Au collisions at RHIC and Pb-Pb collisions at LHC. We find that the nuclear modification factor is inversely proportional to the radius of the quark-gluon plasma and is dominated by the surface emission of hard jets. We predict the nuclear modification factor PLHS AA ∼ 0.15 in central Pb-Pb collisions at LHC. The study shows that the factorization model can be used to describe the centrality dependence of nuclear modification factor of the high transverse momentum particles produced in heavy ion collisions at both RHIC and LHC. © 2008 Chinese Physical Society and IOP Publishing Ltd.
