ZnO/ZnS core–shell nanowires with the wurtzite structure have been grown using a simple catalyst-free thermal evaporation technique. The ZnO/ZnS core–shell nanowires are as long as several tens of micrometers, the thickness of the wires is about 1 µm at the bottom and 50 nm at the top respectively, and the thickness of the core ZnO is about 30 nm near the top of the wires. A high-magnification transmission electron microscope image of a single nanowire reveals a clear ZnO/ZnS interface. The photoluminescence spectrum of the products exhibits two peaks at about 400 and 410 nm respectively.

Three-side teethed feather-like nanocomb structures of ZnO were produced based on a vapor-phase transport process. ZnS powder was used as source material and Si substrate as a collector, at temperature similar to 1100 degrees C. The morphology of the product showed a ribbon-like stem and nanoteeth array aligned evenly along three sides of the nanoribbon. It was found that the nanoribbon grew mainly along the [0 (11) over bar0] direction, and the self-assembled branching nanoteeth grew epitaxially along the [0001], [000 (1) over bar] and [2 (11) over bar0] orientations. A simple aqueous solution route has been successfully employed to prepare large-scale arrays of ZnO nanorods on the zinc foil without the assistance of any template, oxidant or coating of metal oxide layers. It is found that the growth of ZnO nanorod arrays with different densities, diameters and morphologies is dependent on the ammonia concentration and zinc precursor. The different morphologies of the ZnO nanostructures attained with or without adding Zn2+-contained salt in the alkaline solution are compared in the paper. The possible growth mechanism concerning the growth of the different ZnO nanocrystal morphologies is also discussed.

ZnO ellipsoid-like structures assembled by ZnO nanrods were fabricated from common ZnO whiskers by autoclave tests and pyrolysis integrated method. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, selected area electron diffraction, and high resolution transmission electron microscopy studies reveal ZnO ellipsoidal structures are single-crystals and formed from direct "oriented attachment" of nanorods. Raman and room temperature photoluminescence spectra are also discussed.

Heterostructured ZnO : S/ZnO (S-doped ZnO ribbon with ZnO nanoteeth) nanosaws were synthesized by a one-step catalyst-free process through the chemical vapour transport and condensation method. Optimum selectivity and maximum nanosaw densities are obtained for growth temperatures in the range 400–450 °C. Our study suggests that the ribbons were ZnO : S while the teeth were only ZnO. Nanorods, nanoairplane, nanobelts and smooth surface nanotip-like structures were also obtained in our experiment at different growth temperatures. The photoluminescence spectrum of the nanosaws showed a strong visible emission band compared with undoped ZnO powder at room temperature. This strong visible emission in the hetrostructured nanosaws might be useful as a future UV-excited phosphor for producing bright and broad visible-wavelength light.

Aligned ZnO nanotubes were synthesized in the presence of Polyethylene Glycol (PEG 2000) by means of a simple two-step solution-phase procedure. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS) and photo luminescence (PL) spectrum were used to characterize the structure, morphology and optical property of the sample. The results showed that PEG played a significant role in the formation of ZnO nanotubes. The ZnO crystals were grown in hexagonal hollow tube form with a well faceted end and side surfaces. The diameter of each ZnO nanotubes has some variation from bottom to top. The room-temperature photo luminescence spectrum of the tubes revealed a strong and sharp UV emission band at 390 nm and a weak and broad green emission band at 530 nm. An experimental procedure is presented for synthesis of maize-shaped single-crystal ZnO flowers on a large scale at 60 °C for 24 h. The morphologies, purity, sizes and optical properties of the products were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), standard selected area electron diffraction (SAED), Raman, UV–vis absorption and PL spectra. XRD measurement proved the formation of ZnO with wurtzite structure. The results from SEM and TEM revealed that two types of maize cob-based micro-flowers with diameter of 1–2 μm were produced. SAED patterns confirmed that the product was single crystal. UV–vis absorption and PL measurement demonstrated a high quality of the products. The possible growth mechanism is also discussed.

摘要:
We have successfully synthesized self-organized radialized flower-like ZnO micron-crystals by employing Zn(NO3)2·6H2O, NH3·H2O as the starting materials without surfactants, template supporting and structure-directing solvent at a low temperature (60 °C). Characterizations were carried out by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and room temperature photoluminescence (PL) measurements. A possible growth mechanism, the influence of pH value on the formation of crystalline ZnO and the photoluminescence properties of flower-like ZnO are systematically discussed.

Three-dimensional (3D) ZnO nanostructures including tubular flowerlike architectures and radial nanorods were synthesized selectively at a low temperature of 60 °C in the presence of polyethylene glycol. The ultraviolet–visible absorption, photoluminescence and photodegradation behaviors of the 3D nanostructures were also studied.
