The binding reactions of lomefloxacin-copper(II) complex (LMF-Cu) or LMF to bovine serum albumin (BSA) in physiological solution were investigated by multi-spectroscopy. The binding constant, the number of binding sites and the binding distance between LMF-Cu or LMF and BSA were obtained by a fluorescence quenching method and according to the mechanism of Forster-type dipole-dipole non-radioactive energy-transfer, respectively. Enthalpy and entropy changes for two systems were calculated to be -7.970 kJ mol(-1) and 47.438 J mol(-1) K-1 for LMF-BSA, - 12.469 kJ mol(-1) and 33.542 J mol(-1) K-1 for LMF-Cu-BSA, respectively. The highly positive values observed for the entropy give evidence for a strong interaction. The values of Delta H and Delta S in two systems are similar, indicating that electrostatic interactions in two systems play major role. The effect of LMF-Cu or LMF on the conformation of BSA was also analyzed by synchronous fluorescence, three-dimensional fluorescence and circular dichroism spectra. The results showed that the presence of Cu ion in LMF-Cu can affect the conformation of BSA to some degree. All the results revealed that the addition of copper ion promotes the interaction of lomefloxacin with bovine serum albumin. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

(Chemical Equation Presented) A novel series of 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4-{[5- (alkylthio)-4-phenyl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl]methyl}-1,4-dihydro-5H-tetrazol-5- ones 6a-y were synthesized in good to excellent yields and their structures were identified by 1H nmr, 13C nmr, ms and elemental analysis. Determining the X-ray crystallography of compound 6j indicated that there were strong intermolecular hydrogen bonds in the stacking interactions. The bioassay results showed that compound 6k exhibited good insecticidal activities against T cinnabarinus at the dosage of 250 mg.L-1. To our knowledge, this is the first report about the insecticidal activity of tetrazolinone derivatives.

The small molecule, meso-tetra(alpha,alpha,alpha,alpha-o-phenylacetamidophenyl) porphyrin (Mr1147.0) was used as complete antigen to elicit MAb through the immunization and cell fusion techniques. The MAb 1F2 obtained was demonstrated to be very pure by MALDI/TOFMS. The subtype of MAb 1F2 is IgG2a, which has a relative molecular weight of 156,678.8 Da. No significant change in the intensity of absorption peaks in UV and CD spectra was observed over a pH range between 6 and 12. The high stability of the abzyme and the tight binding between Fe porphyrin and antibody were also demonstrated. V-max, K-m, kappa(cat), kappa(cat)/K-m for abzyme are 5.18 x 10- 8 Ms- 1, 1.50 x 10(-8) Ms--1,Ms- 0.518 s(-1), 3.45 x 10(7) M(-1)s(-1), respectively. The data obtained indicate that catalytic antibody has high catalytic activity. The chloroperoxidase activity of MAb 1F2-Fe porphyrin complex is stable from 10 degrees C to 60 degrees C.

Molecular imprinting is apromising technique for the preparation of polymers with predeterminedselectivity and high affinity. Normally, based on the self-assembly of functional monomers and templates(i.e., imprint molecules), the imprinted polymers are produced by crosslinking polymerizations. The templatesare subsequently removed from the polymer, leaving behind binding sites complementary to the imprint speciesin terms of the shape and the position of functional groups. Recognition of the polymer constitutes aninduced molecular memory, which makes the binding sites capable of selectively recognizing the imprint species.This article presents alimited review on molecular self-assembly and the uses of these imprinted polymersin separation, sensors, and catalysis.
